Welded lifter?

I see this term thrown around a lot in reference to competition shotguns but i admit i don't quite understand what it is? I assume its some modification to the shell lifter, but i don't know what that modification is, or why its performed? Is it a performance enhancement that all semi-auto's benefit from or is it to fix an issue with a problematic gun?

It is done to the lifter, which some shooters when loading their shotgun quickly, can catch their thumb in between the lifter and mag tube. If you have ever tried loading a Benelli and was bitten you would know what I'm talking about.

Jeff at C-rums can make you one, and has a quick turn around . Sometimes you have to modify them if you have malfunctions.

But I have never had any problems with the one I have. Good luck JP

Quickly loading shells on the clock like in 3-gun can expose issues with factory lifter designs. The lifters from the factory have some degree of a "fork shape on the end. This shape enhances feed reliability to the chamber by making it more likely that the shell is held in the middle of the chamber opening. The problem for us in 3-gun is that loading with a forked lifter can mean part of your thumb gets caught on the front edge of the lifter or trapped between the lifter end and the forward portion of the receiver.

The welding is attaching a piece of metal to change the shape of the lifter end from an open/fork design to a flat edge that does not have a gap to snag a thumb. They are rounded edged so as to be less snag-prone on skin. OW!

Not needed on an 870, 1100 or 11-87.

The 1100 and 11-87 need an EZ- loader for fast loading. Different problem there...

Mick

Hmmm...my 870 doesn't have anything that looks fork-like...I'm going to assume that means I don't need this modification?
