i do not know anything about open shotgun building, but did it the way i wanted to kept the pistol grip. will give more info tomorrow. my typing is worst than my gunsmithing. hint i do not know what i was doing.

its a 24" VM with a Grizzly brake made up North, trigger and lifter by C-rums, with a Messa short Tactical stock. the bolt has lighten about a oz.

the Vortex does not fit a weaver rail, but does now. the break does work!

i will tell more tomorrow.

thanks

That does bring up a good question. What does it actually weigh, Rob?

-- Mike

now remember my bathroom scale lies, but it says it weigh's 11.0# even. believe it or not the heaviest part to me is the shell holder on the check piece which i have not decided if it will stay. the brake is not as heavy as it looks. the 2011 catolog says appox 7.5# average.

sorry about my typing, if you do not understand because of left words or spelling just ask.

okay, if anyone cares, there is not alot 12 gauge breaks out there, that i could fine. Jeff at grizzly gun works out of Canada, work with me on making sure i had clearance for a X-Rail and for a Versa Max the X-Rail needs 0.235" of room to work per X-Rail.

the barrel has been shorten to 24" plus 2" for the brake. the mag tube is a +7

C-Rums did the trigger and lifter

i like a short stock and really need a pistol grip because of my wrist and want to go open because of arthritis also in my hands so i can play for a little longer.

and everyone i checked with about putting a speed chute on and keeping the pistol grip, where very unsure if they even wanted to try. which i can understand. the center hole on the speed chute is the one it came with. its for a M2. which if mounted to a standard VM would be fine. but i needed to move it forward and the lines on the VM get wider more forward you go. and not knowing what i was doing gave me hell. the rear hole is the new pin hole. the others are for set screws that were suppose to kept it solid, did not work and kept trying to work/fix it-the wrong thing. what the problem was the rear part of the plastic mount push against it because my pin holes were not even close to being square.

anyway lots of work on the wrong thing, any way ended the plastic mount is no longer one piece but 2 halves mounted with Dev-con and 8 x 32 (i think) set screws into the receiver and on the side oppisite of the bolt release a longer set screw that also is flush with chute. all of it not really needed now that i understand it better.

the gun shoots fast and stay's level. friday i can let know how fast.

That's looks like quite a reach from the pistol grip to the trigger. Which gun is that Mesa Tactical stock designed for - Benelli M2? M4? Other? Did you try installing the stock without the gray spacer?

damn i wish i could type, saw the time on your post so i worked on that last post over a hour.

no it is not a reach at all, did try a M2 Messa stock it was a disaster, my fault. the one in the picture is the Messa Tactical short stock 1100/11-87. the stock and VM are not even close to the same width. the grey spacer is for looks it super soft and just looks thick because the rest of it is super compressed to hide the differentance in thickness between the 2 peices. that is why i added it. it only about, less then 1/8" thick between the 2 parts.

also it came from the factory stock.

also i was surprised with this being a 3.5" gun the recoil assy is way short to mount normally to the stock.

also the bolt handle and release are for the M2 i got from Chris (CPWSA) also another note when i told him what i was trying to do he and Jeff (c-rums) both tryed hard to find which speed shute would work, but anyway Chris told me to try it and i could return it no issue as long as i did change it first.

one more thing, i had place a order with Brownells so went ahead and ordered a few M2 trigger parts like hammer springs, carrier dog and spring etc. and they all work fine and were drop in parts.

it was just a test and worked great the factory parts are back in it.

shoulder pad = 3.95 oz

check peice/riser with shell holder = 11.40 oz

muzzel break = 12.39 oz.

also i need to add the clearance from X-Rail for the VM only as is different for the other models.

Looks very nice. Is the extra weight affecting your shooting?

Thank you, No really i never thought about it beening heavy, til someone said something. have not use at match yet, but at home i will say it helps, along with the break, i can shoot it faster and easier than any shotgun i had before.

BUT I HAVE TO SAY I HATE-to strong least favorite- shotguns, i am not a shotgun person.

so if you are a good shotgunner the wieght maybe a issue.

also with that said, if wieght is a issue then, to anyone, then i would not think about a full sized X-Rail for the VM it 22 rounds so that means having a box of shells hanging from the end of the barrel. next year i hope to have one, if not banned because of some dumb-ass trying to see how many people they can get!

I'll get my XRAIL on the 26" Versa Max this weekend and let you know how it feels all loaded up with ammo.

Thanks, that would be nice to know since i know i had to be a pain to X-Rail and Grizzly works to make sure they will work together.

WELL!!!!!!

do not leave me hanging!

LOL....sorry, man!! The rest of my life got in the way (like my job).

I think I can get to it tomorrow. VM needs to be disassembled, carefully cleaned, and inspected anyway before I head out this weekend. Had better do it. Sorry for the delay. Hang in there.

XRAIL is on and yes, when loaded it balances much more forward than before. No shock considering how much weight is up toward the muzzle. Getting it on wasn't very difficult at all. I was pleasantly surprised in that regard.

I'm not sure how it will be in real shooting, so I will need to test it when I can.

Main tube end cap extends ever so slightly past the muzzle, but I doubt it would catch any blast gasses. I want to get an extended choke anyway, so that will be "fixed" in a couple of weeks. Sorry about no pics, but it's late.

i got to it use today, at a local shotgun only match, it is still not quite right, it missed twice! other than that it ran %100 i am still a little slow, and i also learned those speed loaders are hell to keep up with!

thanks everyone!

also for me i really do like the weak hand load with the sticks and pistol grip!

it has been a lot work, rework and WTF but today was a rewarding day!
