Mark454
I am looking to update this topic. I have searched past posts and it looks like this hasn't been brought up in awhile. What are you using for Speedloader Carriers in SSR? I am using Comp III speedloaders. Past posts mention modifying the Safariland 333 to meet the carrier rule requirement. Is anyone doing that and how are you making it legal? Are the Ready Tactical carriers still one of the best options? Did Blade Tech stopped making their single pouch? Does anyone know if IDPA is looking to make a rule change to make more carries legal? Thanks for the help, Mark
Jim Watson
I wanted to exercise the Python so I got some SL Variant loaders and Ready Tac buckets. A friend uses the same carriers for Jetloaders and I am sure they will work with Comp IIIs. I had the original Safariland 333 as modified by The Bear for IDPA. The rig that Ken H. said was The Thing To Have for revolver shooters. But that was before the requirement to wrap the speedloader came in. I have not seen 333 cups with "sideboards" to meet that requirement and don't know how well that would work.
harleytech
I use Ready Tactical speedloader holders for both IDPA and ICORE. Work great, no drama.

TerryYu
Why are the Safariland 333s illegal for IDPA? Is it because the holder does not cover the "full body" of the Comp III? If so, can you just mod them so they have an extra 1/2 inch of material that does cover up the body to make them legal? I plan on shooting IDPA with the 333s. I don't think anyone will call me out on it at my local range, as I will probably be one of 2 revo shooters on a given day but I would like to know so that I don't get sent home in a larger match setting. Jim Watson
Speedloader carrier must: D. Either be of open top configuration that holds the speedloader in by tension and covers the full diameter and body of the speedloader or retain the speedloader with a snap or Velcro closure. That is one reason the 333 is not approved, it does not cover the speedloader at all. Also the factory version has three cups on one belt slide and you may only wear two speedloaders in front of the holster. I guess you could wear them behind the holster or on the off side like magazine pouches with some sort of sideboards to enclose the loaders. Your club might not follow the rules but a sanctioned match would not allow the 333 in stock form.
TerryYu
These are legal though, right? I have a couple of these laying around if anyone decides to call me out on it, I just don't want to mess up my muscle memory for when I shoot ICORE and USPSA. TerryYu
Good. I can stuff a Comp III into it if necessary and just eat 1/2 second on the reload.

M1911
The first match that I competed in SSR, I used a speedloader holder like that, with flaps. Never again. It was glacially slow.

They appear to retain the speed loaders the same way the RTs do... but the mount to the belt is different.

The North Mountain unit is Frame specific whereas the Ready Tactical can be used for K & L frames speedloaders.
GmanCdp
the circle of kydex that holds the speedloader in a ready tactical unit ,expands in and out for L frame loaders and K frame loaders are not as tight or mine seem that way..
GmanCdp
not a real good pic of the ready tacticals, but you can see where the kydex expands at.. year ago i had Robert Perdue @ http://4wheelguns.com cut 11 of my comp III's and bought 2 of his holders.. all in all for $185.00 which i think was worth every penny to have hime cut the comp III's,plus the holders work better for ME.. I still use the ready tactical for the 3rd reload behind my holster[i'm left handed].. Bob's holders work better for me because of my "ballast stabilizer" around my waist, and have since not had the problem of the comp III's coming out of the holder..Bob did a great job and had a very fast response time.. see attached for compIII cut.. I have a K-frame. My Ready Tactical speedloader holders are fine as is. I've never had a speedloader come out unintentionally, whether at a match or while carrying concealed. So I fail to see the problem.
Cd662
"Ready Tactical can be used for K & L frames speedloaders. " They are frame specific. Sometimes you can get them to fit but it's best to go with the frame size designated on the site. My K Frames were all very very tight so I worked them with a hairdryer and they are held nicely in place but also come out easily.

Good idea, or you can make a cut right down the center of the flap, put speedloader in, tighten velcro down on each side of the loader and you've got it. Secure enough to hold them upside down and they come right out on a reload. I've tried this method when I was in a pinch for carriers at a USPSA match. It worked, although the money spent on Ready Tac, etc will be money well-spent if you're serious about hanging in the division.

The holsters on the otherhand are frame specific, and a K-Frame rattles in my L-Frame holster.
