Michael64
Noticed that some rear sights from some aftermarket companies are now making the rear sight notch a U instead of the traditional square notch. Why are people prefering this over the traditional square notch??
digby7
the u-notch is read to be easier to alighn with a gold bead or fiber optic or dot because of the similarities in shape. ive tried numerous u-notch sights - 10-8's to wilsons and still prefer normal square notch sights mainly because of the porportions of notch width to front sight width. I seem to like 100/125 Edited July 17, 2012 by digby7
Steve L
I don't "deepen" my rear sight so what I've noticed is the U-notch does is give you almost a full view of the front sight. I only want to see the top of my post through my rear this way I can align for elevation easier. A friend of mine though has switch to 10-8's u-notch on all his Glocks and M&Ps. I don't use fiber and he does so that makes a difference too.
PistoleroJesse
Here is 10-8's explanation. I dig the brass bead and u-notch of 10-8's. I have tried Warren Tactical's u-notch, but it has a flat bottom where as the 10-8 is completely round. I like the complete round bottom compared to just the rounded corners because when you set it up with an appropriately placed bead or fibber optic it does a better job of becoming a 1/2 ghost ring than the flat bottom. So I'm going to stick with the brass bead and 10-8's for competition, but I may try the Trijicon HD's for a carry gun latter... PistolTraining.com has their own take on them. YMMV
BoyGlock
I experimented w/ it for a while and I noticed the U provides greater contrast to a post fs so that I easily define the fs. Problem was, my eye wants the post to be always in the center of the U, my focus was more on the bottom of the post instead of the top and any deviation/misalignment makes the sight pic unacceptable to me. Not good for me. Edited July 24, 2012 by BoyGlock
twodownzero
I have a 10-8 on my carry gun and I honestly don't even notice it that much. I'm still looking at the top of the blade either way. It never even dawned on me to change my other guns to the U notch style.
