eddiegunks
hey all, i am going to build some more target stands. i would like to get some DIY ideas for any kind of a moving target. i would really appreciate close up images of the bearings, their placements, or any other movable part to help facilitate my project. thanks eddie
JFlowers
I use the ones from freeidaho (http://www.parmarng.org/freeidaho/). They are PVC and get shot up after a while but are easy to build and maintain.
eddiegunks
Thanks. I will check it out. I could not access that site before, but this link worked on my phone so hopefully this link is better than the other i had tried. . Cheers
Skydiver
Not to hijack this thread, but I'd be curious to see some DIY designs for something like a reverse pressure pad... it is triggered when the pressure is released. Would simple friction on a cable, and the cable running through a pulley to a weight be sufficient? Edited July 15, 2012 by Skydiver
jmorris
Would simple friction on a cable, and the cable running through a pulley to a weight be sufficient? If you want one that is real easy to build, pull the cable back to the shooter and have him/her step on it.

If you want one that is real easy to build, pull the cable back to the shooter and have him/her step on it. I'm looking more for a land mine like affair... Step on it nothing activates until the time the shooter steps off it. But yes, nothing beats the simplicity of having the shooter stepping, sitting, kneeling, or laying on the cable. jmorris
How complicated of a build are you willing to do? These go from super super simple to pretty involved.
JWeber
JMorris, Tell me about your third picture down, the side moving target. What did you use for a drive motor. Also what size pulleys did.you use. jay
jmorris
That one started out as an old 12v cordless drill the someone gave me after the battery gave out. I kept the 2 speed gear box and made a pully out of aluminum with two different diameter slots 3" and 2.5" (drill and tap the center 3/8 24 and lock it in the same as the chuck). At full speed it can run faster than me the bottom video is as slow as it goes. You wrap the string around the drive pully one time for traction. The non drive end is just an aluminum pulley with a bearing in it welded to a boat style winch so it is easy to set up. The project got more complicated when I wanted it to stop at either end or auto reverse and go back to the starting position by itself. 3 extra switches do that job along with set collars that clamp to the string to set limits for both directions. The guide rods and springs are so everything has time to reverse or enguage the drill motor brake to stop, without crashing. Its OK as a running man but much more fun as a running wall. Used it as MVSA a few years ago like this. Edited September 14, 2012 by jmorris
