CB45
Practice today was all about reloads. Started out with moving reloads, then worked on fast standing reloads. Great success. I finally broke the 1 sec reload benchmark. I didn't they were going so fast until the guy holding the timer told me. Good deal.
CB45
So I'm all packed up and ready to go to Alabama. I leave tomorrow at 3:30 am and should get to Alabama around 4:00pm to walk the stages. 3 GM's and 10 or so M's in Open. Looks to be some healthy competition! I hope I get to shoot without too much equipment issues. I think it will be a fun match! When I get back I've got some serious practice to do with the Production rig. That will be interesting! CB45
Stages look good! Pretty straightforward, no frills, run and gun stages. It is going to be fun!
CB45
Alabama was fun! Despite feeling a little under the weather Friday, I seemed to pull together a decent match. A couple gun issues, but I suspect it was caused by either dirt or mags. The issues occurred after lunch, I'm kicking myself for not taking the gun apart and cleaning it during lunch. Lesson learned. I ended up 5th in Open, 2nd M. 1 D, 1 Mike, 1 No Shoot, haha! I was pleased with my points shooting on the move, but looking at the results it looks like I was a tad slow. I had a couple 3rd place finishes, that felt rewarding. I'm really proud of my friends Kurt E. and Chris S. Kurt finished 1st Open C and Chris finished 3rd overall in Limited. Awesome! Great weather and a great range. Southern hospitality was shown to these northerners! Staff and sponsors were really friendly and helpful. Thanks! JakeMartens
Nice job! It was a fun match, good start to the season. Wish I had been able to get a few practice and or matches in before I had some decent stages and a couple of turd. Only 1 Mike and 4 d's, but too slow to do better than 14th overall. TrukSnave
Good job Chad! I'm pretty sure you shot a Delta, Mike and a no shoot just to check all the boxes! It doesn't look right if you only have 191 Alpha's 4 Bravo and 54 Charlies
CB45
Thanks guys! Well I began work with the G17 today. I went to the range this afternoon, it was 30°f and 30mph wind. My hands were freezing, but I was able to get some shooting in. Came home and dry fired for about 30 min. By the end I was able to get some decent reloads, but I've got some serious work to do if I am going to take down Rob S. at the IN SS/PRD/REV match in 2 weeks. Let the work begin. CB45
Thanks RVB! I missed the other D on my score sheets. I guess I had 2 Delta's at Alabama... Results have been posted:http://www.uspsa.org/uspsa-display-match-results-detail.php?action=summary&indx=10805&compid=152 Stages 3 & 5 are where I had gun issues. I think it'll be fun to shoot Prd. Should be a good learning experience. I've had an urge to shoot PRD for a while, so this should cure my ailment. I don't have high expectations, I just want to not embarrass myself. I thought that too. I am planning on shooting production all next year, actually have bought an xdm already for it.

CB45
Thanks Freeborn! Well last night I finally got some time to measure my mags. They are all jacked up. The lips barely hold bullets in place, I guess they really do go out of spec with regular use. I will be working on that before I go back to open. But at least I have something to blame for my gun issues at Alabama. Dry fire with the G17 seems to be going well. Bullets out mag pouches seems legit. Practice tonight & tomorrow, then a local on Sunday. We'll see how it goes.
ZackJones
Congrats! Quick question for you. In the video around the 55 - 57 second mark at the start of stage 9. You shot the target to the right first and then the one through the port. Just curious to know why you didn't shoot the one through the port first. It a method to "try" to consolidate the draw and getting into position to shoot both targets. I'm not sure it worked, but it probably didn't hurt. Thanks Bill!!! CB45
Well, my Production debut with a G17 wasn't awesome, but by the last stage I was feeling a little more confident. I shot 5 mikes on one stage, and I know exactly how it happened. I lined up the sights, and started a smooth trigger pull. Then about half way through the pull, I yanked the trigger the rest of the way. Mastering a gun with a pivoting trigger mechanism takes more than 300rds of practice, particularly when spoiled with single action. I do like the idea of Production as a division. The gear is simple and about 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of Open/Limited. With a greater emphasis on reloads and shooting points, I think its more challenging than Open. I like shooting Open, but I wouldn't rule out a Production stint in my future...
JakeMartens
I have said for the last 8 years I am going to shoot an entire season in product, learn to really respect calling shoots and shooting points, just never have. I have 2 XDm's 5.25 stuck back now for next year (at least that is the plan right now)
ZackJones
I moved from revolver (damn 8-shots are going to rule that division) to production and it was like coming back home.
