Forgotten Movie Title

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone out there in the Enosverse Group Mind can identify a movie for me. I saw this thing when I was a teenager, and loved it, but now can't remember the title. The main charcter is a young man, like very late teens, very early 20s, and the movie takes place in a mental hospital where he's an inmate. This guy is totally emotionally dysfunctional, he hates everyone, especially his parents.

Some of the most arresting imagery in the movie is shown in his dreams, which, the moviemakers made no bones about (according to the pre-movie commentator) were inspired by Salvador Dali. And some of this stuff is worthy of Dali. Especially noteworthy is a dream the young man has of a giant clock face, the hands of which are razor sharp sword blades. His parents' heads are sticking out through the clock face, when the blades reach them they'll be killed, and he's pushing on the blades, trying to get them to move faster. Then the young man meets another patient, a young woman, who's even worse off than him, extremely withdrawn. That night he has the same dream, only this time it's her head sticking through the clock face, and now he's not pushing on the blades, he's trying to stop them. This is the first time in his life he's ever felt interested and protective, ever given a damn about another person.

The final scene sees the young woman, almost catatonic, curled up in the lap of this huge piece of statuary that sits in the hostpital's courtyard. And the young man goes up and gets her down. My words don't really convey the power of this scene. It's one of the most incredible things I've ever seen in a movie.

Anyone know the name of this movie? For years I thought it was The Crazy Quilt, but I've since found that's a completely different film.

-----Crap! He beat me to it!

A friend and I saw it a couple of years after that and decided to speak in rhyme a lot of the time from that point on. It was easier than you think. We worked together at the time (he was the computer programmer, I was the data-entry drone), and our co-workers thought we were nutz.:P

Limited40,

Thanks for that link! I was just about to start "Forgotten Moive Title II" thread... But I figured it out with the "plot search." It's been killing me for a couple years now. What was the name of the movie where decisions are made by a coin flip. It starts out innocently enough, then gets crazier and crazier.

God I love this forum.

;)

So, what was the name of the movie?

BTW, sounds like it was inspired by the comic book character of Two-Face.

Hey, I don't mind getting old....it sure beats the alternative.

Duane, dude. I spent many years reading stacks of books, watching movies galore (I worked at an automated radio station for a few years. Six hours a night of watching the reel-to-reel player going round and round....)

I am in awe of just how many books, movies, comics and other stuff you have seen and recall. Do you sleep? Or do you just go in every three months for an oil change?

Sleep is a dreadful waste of time in the potential-for-more-experience-and-learning sense. But I get really weird if I DON'T sleep for a while every night. <_<

I tried a doing-without-sleep marathon at approx age 19-20 and the limit was about three days. I went into convulsions. Then I went to bed and promptly fell asleep. I don't recommend doin' without sleep.

I tend to sleep about 2-3 hours a night.

Most the times once the weekend is on. I don't sleep at all. I find it easier to stay up than to try to wake up.

Oh well I am still a young buck.
