Different Powder's Burn Rates

How about we gather and list the commerical, cannister-grade powders that are identically formulated but are branded differently?

For example, Hodgdon HS6 and Winchester 540. Ramshot Silhouette (?) and Winchester Action Pistol. You get the idea.

But only the powders proven identical by a preponderance of evidence. For example, you may be able to load True Blue in place of N350, but we know they aren't the same powder.

The Ramshot powders would be a good place to start.

H110 and W296

Is that for certain? Because, long ago, when I used to load/test them both in my 30 carbine, I didn't think they were the same powder. Especially because the barrel was noticeably cooler after shooting a 30 round burst (M2) with H110 than it was with 296. And I noticed that time after time. But maybe something changed?

I got that straight from the Winchester Rep at the hangun silhouette international championships 5 years ago. He said that winchester makes them both but gives the worst lots to hogdon. I guess it is second hand info. I have read it on other forums since then also. I wouldnt bet my life on that info though :D

Not to denigrate the Winchester rep or anything, but I would take any hear-say info like that "with a grain of salt" unless, I knew for a fact I was talking to their senior engineer/chemist.

YMMV

I am looking for a good reciepe for using pistol powder to load up .30 carbine 110 grain fmj for a rifle.Like most people I have plenty of pistol powder but next to no rifle powder! I currently have 231,Bullseye,Unique,and Titegroup lll. I usually use 296 or H110 which I can't find for month's.

Varget = Reloder 15. There is no question on this one.

Surely not the same powder - Varget is single-based and manufactured by ADI, R-15 is double-based and made by Alliant. R-15 tends to run slower in most 223 and 308 loads with heavy bullets.

You Beat Me To It. Varget And RL15 Look And Smell Different And Require Different Loads In Both My 308 And 223S

They Are Both Great Powders Though, Just Not The Same.
