John Thompson
12 hours of hard work and frustration went down the toilet today. I stained the last one third of my deck with that new six year Baer stain and after only two hours of application it rained when it wasn't supposed to. I've just got in and am writing this after putting stripper on the ruined stain; the stripper got onto the good stain basically ruining the entire deck. I can't believe this. EricW
I feel your pain. I just put the same stuff on my deck and sweated the wx the whole way. If you can powerwash the silicone out, you might have chance to fix it. Otherwise, it will probably take stain again in a couple years. We had the same problem - once you put the stain on it was nearly impossible to fix any flaws as the silicone sealed the grain and prevented any further penetration. John Thompson
oh the stain came off alright, even the two thirds part of the deck that was supposed to be done. I also noticed that if I scratch my finger nail on the bannister, where the stain set and I didn't get stripper on it, the stain scratched right off. Even when I get this fixed, and I have to do the deck right because the old wood decking is on it's last legs, I don't know how this new stain is going to work out. John Thompson
Eric was right. I had to take the reapplication off and strip yet again. Behr customer service went like this: Me: I used Behr stripper to take the stain off but it didn't work. Behr: You need Behr stripper to take the silicon off so that the stain will adhere. Me: I just said the stripper didn't work. Behr: I under stand, but you need Behr stripper to.... Me: Do you actually have an answer to my problem or did your training only consist of talking in circles?
Merlin Orr
I just took a power washer to mine to "solve" the problem. My deck wood was old treated pine. It not only took the old stain off but blew out the softer areas of the grain so deep that it looks 20 yrs older than when I started. I just kept on "a fixin it" till now it looks like S**T. I too - feel your pain.
Doggorloader
After years of looking, trying, redoing ect. I found out about a line of products made by Sikkens a division of Akzo coatings from a high end marina as a solution to redoing my swim platform on the boat year ater year. Used Cetol on it 4 years ago and with one minor touch up this year it looks brand new. Used Rubbol DEK on the deck two years ago and it looks like I just did it. Had a little green mold in the damp areas this spring and it pressure washed right off with no harm to the finish So far the products are exactly as reccomended as the best bar none. I'm a believer and passing it on. Here's their site with all of their products, prep work and applications and dealer locater: http://www.nam.sikkens.com/index-english.cfm Tom

Next time I'm going ot have to replace the decking and when that happens I'm investing in the plastic wood stuff. My frined used to do decks on the side and he told me the other day he has plently of the 4yr+ commercial grade stuff, Been nice if he told this before...
