1050 DIY tool head stand under 20$

Recommended Posts

Hey gang. No idea if this is the right place for this thread but I have been annoyed with tool head storage. So the idea is to use common PVC pipe. I have acquired all the parts from a local hardware stir for just under 17 dollars. I am going to take lots of pictures along the way.

More to come later this afternoon.

My guess is that the pictures and thread documentation will take longer than the build.

Can't wait to get started. I am excited about the project. More to come later in the afternoon. Just finishing up Easter lunch with the family.

The problem: Cardboard boxes as Tool head holders. . . These boxes are now 10+ years old and never did work very well,

The tool heads would fall over and the boxes collected trash.

I started with the ends you will need two of them:

Then I went on to building the uprights

Here is a pic of the three of the four uprights together.

Now to put the ends on it and stand it up.

Alright. now that the main section is assembled we are ready to glue in the 1" PVC that will hold the toolhead itself:

Once all the uprights are in it is time to fill the base with Play sand or not your choice. I filled it with sand to give the stand some weight and to hold the added powder measurer holder in the middle of the 1" PVC. There is a PVC adapter for sale but it would have to be turned so I passed. Cheap and easy.

Once the base is filled with Sand I tapped in the Powder measurer holders which are just 1/2 PVC and filled them with a little sand. Make sure that there is enough space at the top so that even after you seal up the sand the measurer will still sit on it. I used a cheap bright white caulk just because it was cheap and handy.

There are a couple things I really like and some I don't about this stand

Likes:

1) works as designed

2) Sturdy

3) once painted will be pretty

Dislikes

1) too small; I put 2" Pieces between the uprights and really needed 4"

2) too big; Well I Think my table is too small but it is 21" long and only holds 2 heads and 4 powder measures. To get 4 complete tool heads on it it will need to be another 6" longer

I think the incarnation of this tool head stand will be to build one that is a single head stand. I like the ability to put the powered measurer on it without the tool head as that seems to be a regular pain with changing calibers.

Cheers
