havotec1
I thought I saw someone say that you could remove weights from a standard buffer and could make it the same weight as the low mass buffer. Any ideas on this? And if it's true how many weights to remove? Anyone willing to weigh their low mass buffer for me. Thanks in advance
smokshwn
Very simple. Take the standard rifle buffer, remove the roll pin, and remove the weights until you have a resulting buffer assembly that weighs 3 ounces. That is the weight of the JP low mass buffer. maddox
I think removing 3 weights gets you close but I could be wrong.

benny hill
Don't forget to add a round alum. shim to replace the weights.
maddox
Mr. Benny, Is adding the replacement filler necessary? What is the results of removing the weights and not filling the void?
Clint-M
I've never done the deed but I'd imagine if you remove weights without filling the void what is left might be able to slide around creating an unpredictable weight shift within the buffer. Like I say, don't know it as a fact or even own a rifle buffer to check but it sounds reasonable. CM

TRUBL
You can just remove the weights, no need to replace them with anything. Contrary to popular belief....the original weights do not eliminate what people call bolt bounce bounce, if anything it may have tamed it a little bit (for full auto fire), but that wasn't the scope of adding weight to the buffer in the first place. The M16/M4 is a closed bolt machine gun and works totally on timing, if the weights are off or the springs are off....you could have problems. However, for the semi-auto version you don't have quite the same type of timing issues. The original weights had more to do with cyclic rate reductioin than anything else. The only time you will have an issue is if you can double tap faster than the rifle could fire in a full auto mode, can you do a sub .10 second double tap? Basically.....try it and see if you have issues. Worst thing that can happen is that it goes 'click'(the AR15 was designed NOT to fire out of battery), but most of the competitors will not notice anything, except a possible reduction in the recoil impulse.
