PatUSAF
Hey Everyone, I was wondering if anyone out there knew if it were possible to 1. get a 15 round 9mm magazine for the Tanfoglio limited or 2.Modify the magazine to only carry 15 rounds? I live in the beautiful state of NJ and of course we're not allowed to have more than 15 rounds in the mag. I would really love to someday to pick up the limited in 9mm or maybe even .38 super so it would need to be modified to even have a chance to own it in this state. Ryan626
Hi Pat, I have the Tanfoglio Limited in .40 S&W. This is not a direct answer to your post but do you think the .40 mags may fit and feed 9mm out of a .40 mag without any issues? I am willing to let you try my K40 mags for my limited. I usually shoot in CJ for USPSA or Old Bridge. The .40 mags are 15 rounders. Ryan

Ryan Ya know I'm not sure if that would work, I would think it might have an issue depending on the top width of the magazine, I can't imagine it would be as simple as that, not only that but also because the .40 is a larger shell and putting 9mm into that mag would probably take that 15 rounder and make it into a 16 or even 17 round capacity since they're smaller in diameter. But alas, I don't know anything to experiment with, right now I'm just trying to get an idea whether or not its possible for a future purchase. I love the look and the quality of the gun but wasn't sure if it would work for our beloved states laws. How do you like the gun overall?? I think its quite possibly the best looking (dare I say...sexiest)platform out there right now!
Ryan626
The reason I am asking is because my friends were playing with .40 glock mags and they were able to fit 9mm in the mags and fire it without any issues. So they put 9mm ammo in .40 mags and fired it from a 9mm glock. Technically, the law states that 15 max capacity round. The mags says 15 max for .40. I don't believe it states you couldn't stick a 9mm in it. I love the gun. The admin of NJgunforums.com/forum let me hold his and I just had to get one. It has been reliable so far for me except for some bad reloads that I did but that's my fault. I've fired about 1,500 trouble free rounds in USPSA matches between Old Bridge, Central Jersey, and Shongum. If you ever want to try out to see if .40 mag works, let me know. I should be in Old Bridge for USPSA on March 24. Ryan

I run a stock M&P 9mm pro right now and i would sell my first born for one of those, its like pilots say, if it looks like it flys well it probably will.....so if it looks like it will shoot well it probably will. I wish I had the cash right now to pick one up...but I want to do the research now so when I do I'm ready to go!
Nealio
9mm in the .40 mag isn't going to work. The rounds sit too high at the mouth of the mag, which means the width at the mouth is too wide for the 9mm round.
Skydiver
As for modifying the magazine, see this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=126829&view=findpost&p=1431359
PatUSAF
As for modifying the magazine, see this thread: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=126829&view=findpost&p=1431359 Awesome, that's a great fix for those mags, it seems like a pretty easy modification, unlike my M&P mags which I had two which were regular 17 rounds and didn't feel like dealing with them, sold em and bought new NJ legal 15ers This seems much easier to modify! Thanks very much Pat
Ryan626
Pat, You can buy a Tanfo in .40 S&W instead or buy a CZ TS as it's almost an identical gun and they have 10 rd mags. I can load my .40 as soft as a 9mm. Because of NJ Law, most dealers may not sell you this gun due to the fact that it's not a legal mag to own in NJ. I would check with someone from NJ who is more knowledgeable to our laws here because I believe you cannot pin the mags yourself in NJ since technically you are not suppose to own one. I would err in the side of caution since you know how our great state operates. Be careful. Ryan
Skydiver
Last time I spoke with EAA Customer service (and take that with a grain with salt considering how variable EAA CS can be), they told me that for states with magazine limits, they send the guns/mags to a FFL, and the FFL is supposed to do the modifications to ensure that state laws are complied with. I'm quite sure a reasonable gunsmith with a FFL can do the modifications for you or with you.

I'm quite sure a reasonable gunsmith with a FFL can do the modifications for you or with you. I had this come up when I purchased my M&P pro from a dealer in a Freedom loving state without restrictions. I talked to my FFL and they just said have them send the mags elsewhere, friends house out of state etc.... as long as they don't come with the gun itself they could care less, what I do with the mags after the fact is my choice. So I had the gun sent without the mags, the dealer was totally cool with it, and had my mags sent to a PA resident/friend who held them until I sold them a week ago, and just bought new compliant mags today from G&R. I can't imagine the same situation wouldn't happen for the Tanfo, but heck maybe i'll just get the .40, I like the 9mm better myself, only because operating costs/reloading is cheaper....for the most part (ie...its easier to find a crap-ton of brass at the range that is 9mm) Pat
