Ken_Bird
Here is the deal, our club is starting to hold some very small and limited three gun matches. 22LR Carbine, Center Fire Pistol, and Shot Gun. We have had quite a stir over what each class is. We have one class, we call stock. All three guns have open iron sights. No Optics, Our Next is what we call Tactical Optics. You may have a red dot, or any other optic on any one of your three guns. The other two must remain stock iron sight. Last is what we call open. You may have optics on all three any kind you want. Also we put box mag shotguns in this class as well. Ok, the question is. Is a red Dot sight considered an optic, or can it be used in place of open iron sights. Thanks in advance for any input. stein
What type of ranges are your rifle targets?
technetium-99m
A lot of matches will allow non magnifying optics in with the iron sighted rifles. Seems to work well with shooters being very receptive.
Skydiver
Well by your definition of Tactical Optics, you said "red dot, or any other optic". So you must already consider it an optic by having the word "other". Otherwise, you would have phrased it as "red dot, or optics".

Yes, many say that a red dot sight is a advantage to the shooter over open sights and should be classified as a optic. That said its not under magna faction so maybe its not optic. At issue really is the fairness of a red dot vs iron open.
Ken_Bird
What type of ranges are your rifle targets? Due to shooting 22LR and having limited back stop the riflr is limited to 50 yards. many shorter.
