beachcop
Anyone have any good recomendations for an Exterior Slide Protectant? My duty carry Sig keeps rusting on top of the slide, and on the rear sights. Or would slide-glide lite be and option there?
BlueOvalBandit
I wouldn't put slide glide on the exterior, too messy. I had decent success with Blue Wonder Armadillo, its kind of waxy so it stays where you put it. Edited March 11, 2012 by BlueOvalBandit

TonyT
I wipe the exterior with Rem Oil - it dries without being oily.
gunguru
May try a silicone oil like Hoppes cloth, it's give a good finish protection. And as the cloth is already oil, it's pretty easy to wipe it clean fastly and the end of the day. And NEVER let your gun sleep in the holster, they are humidity trap. BlueOvalBandit
And NEVER let your gun sleep in the holster, they are humidity trap. This is a good tip, especially if you got some old school leather holsters. The tanning chemicals can leach out sometimes and do some funky stuff. I have never tried the silicon impregnated clothes but I imagine they would be easier to apply then blue wonder, which can take some work. cuzinvinny
Try Eez-ox. It is another of those that dries to form a protective film. I have had good luck using it over the last 2 or 3 years.
Retread1911
CorrisionX is by far the next thing I have ever found. I use it as a cleaner and a protectant.
reichebrown
I'm gonna go old school and suggest TC bore butter. It's the only thing I have found that stops the rust and doesnt stink to high heaven.
Aglifter
I mostly just use ballistol, unless the gun is bare stainless - then I use boe-shield. As I recall, Sigs have a finish which soaks up oil.
snake32
rusteprufe i use it on all of my guns works great
Lee G
Eez-ox or CLP are probably the best preventative chemicals. If you want a more permenant solution you could get Birdsong and Assoc. to refinish it in Black-T. I have them finish every pistol I own. I have never had a speck of rust on anything with their finish, even after sweating all over it in the 100% MS humidity all day. To clean them I just rinse them off under a water facet and run a patch through the barrel.
KungFuNerd
I use CLP when I clean but use Tuf-Glide on exterior and between cleanings (I CCW) http://www.sentrysolutions.com/
Chris Keen
Hard Chrome!
Lee G
Hard Chrome does an excellent job of protecting the exterior of the gun, however it is expensive and if it ever cracks corrosion can build up underneath. I'll make one more point about black-t, the entire gun, internal and external parts minus the bore are finished. It is guaranteed not to rust for the life of the gun and they are very serious about this. Even if the finish wears away the corrosive resistent properties remain. Before Walter passed away he was telling me he once tested the finish for 10,000 hours in salt spray with zero corrosion. This is over a year of testing before he gave up. I would think living in gulf shores this finish for a duty weapon would almost be a necessity. I'm sure ion bond or robar are just as good, but these folks are just down the road from me and have always done a great job on my firearms. http://www.black-t.com/technicalinfo.htm

Bob DuBois
Sounds crazy but I've been using Red Wing Mink Oil for several years. Nothing will stop rust or holster wear but Mink Oil has worked better than anything I've seen. After cleaning just wipe it down the wipe it off leaves a film, brings out the shine on a blued gun. I have several hardchromed pistols and use it on them also. I live in a hot humid area, guns will rust quickly in the summer. Try it it's cheap. Jaxshooter
I use Break Free CLP to clean and to protect the finish. I also use it on my $30M Perazzi and Kolar shotguns. The shotguns are stored in Nasco aluminum cases in my safe. I have never had a spec of rust on any guns using CLP.
