Dry film moly lube for mags etc

I had someone who I respect a lot recomend using Dow Corning Molykote 321 dry film lube to use on the inside of mags and areas where wet lube isnt really recomended. I would like to try but at about $50 a spray can thats high. BirchwoodCasey makes a 4 oz can and LPS makes a full size can for quite a bit less than the Dow Corning product. We are taklking about a larger cal mag not a 22 cal.

Any opinions from experiance?

If you need silicone your mags are not set up right.

Elaborate.....?? Maybe I am missing something here? I use silicon spray on the inside of my mags to help smooth things out. Kind of a personal thing. The mags are Howard Smith tunned mags and will run dry also.

Bob from Brazos had some mag cleaning/protector spray at Area 2. Figured I would purchas a can and see how it worked out. The stuff worked fantastic. Gets all the gunk out of the mag especially by the feed lips. Seems I do't have to clean the mags as often while at the range. Now I wish I purchased a couple of cans.

Smith & Wesson Dry Lube For both guns and mags works well for all my bottom feeders. CLP and compressed air every 2-3 K just to check things over and refresh the dry lube. Mobil 1 only for my revo's.

The Dow Corning Molykote 321 is good if you are working aircraft or aerospace stuff. It shines at avoiding al-to-al or al-to-stainless galling. It does leave a hard coating which can flake off, which normally isn't a big deal. I've used it on tecloaders for shotgun, but it wasn't any better in that application than the $3 can of CRC silicone spray from wally world. I like using a little of the acetone based CRC silicone in the mag tubes, and then wipe the excess off with a rag pulled through the mag. As was mentioned dirt doesn't stick at all, and it seems to help the feeding and avoiding the maraca syndrome (maybe it just makes ME feel better, I donno).

IMHO - mags wouldn't be a good application for dry film lube, but if you decide to go that way it can bought cheaper at places like skygeek, or your local aviation supply house who caters to aircraft mechanics.
