R. Batt
According to Alliant, Clay Dot is a direct replacement for Clays in shot shell loads. Has anyone tried it in handgun loads? If you have, does it pressure spike like Clays? I don't want to do anything stupid but I have a lot of it and would like to try it out once I get a little more information. Thanks. Skydiver
Depends with burn rate chart you trust: Hodgdon has the two of them close: http://www.hodgdon.com/burn-rate.html While Ramshot has the two of them far away: http://www.ramshot.com/products/burn-rates/ Of course, Alliant's burn rate chart has only their products on their chart. R. Batt
That's what scares me about doing this without more information. Who knows if "direct replacement" means exactly the same or close enough.
wide45
A few years ago when Clays got scarce I tried E^3. It is marketed as a replacement for Clays. After chronoing, my loads weigh the same, and show no more pressure signs than Clays. If you have been using Clays to make major, you already know that only you are responsible for the safety of your load. Work it up the same way and see if it works for you. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=66191
R. Batt
I'll try to work up some loads in the next little while and will report my findings.
