Bushmaster Predator

Recommended Posts

I have just recently caught the 3gun bug and converted my coyote gun (Bushmaster Predator) for 3gun with a Tac 30 and ace skeletonized stock. I dont mind the weight or length of it and the two stage trigger is pretty nice on the long range stuff, but my question is would I see enough benefit from having my barrel threaded and installing a comp or would I be better off leaving it alone and buy a purpose built gun down the road? Also would a Troy or JP hand guard weigh less than the aluminum that came stock? Thanks for your input!

Sorry, just realized this wasn't posted in the Rifle Technical thread as I intended..

A compensator makes a big difference. What's right for some isn't right for all so i can't really tell you which way to go as there are too many choices, but the right compensators make a day and night difference in felt recoil.

If you have the chance to shoot a comp'd gun, do so along with your gun on the same drill. See for yourself.

You can have lots of fun shooting a general purpose rifle, but if you catch the bug, you will want a dedicated set-up that lets you maximize your potential.

Rather than cutting and threading the barrel on what you have which has value in the hunting area, I would just buy a new upper and set it up for 3 gun. The cost difference is not significant and you will still have your hunting set up.

I shot just a plain a2 flash hider on my TI guns until last year. I have been kind of a minimalist in the rifle catagory for years. I don't like gadgets and goodies bolted to my rilfe, the simpler the better. Here is my advice...get a comp.

Thread your barrel for a few bucks, or replace it, but get a comp. Close range double are one benfit, but staying on long range steel from shot to shot is much easier, and makes a big difference.
