trying to find c.o.l. for a 147gn load

My XD needs a short round. I load Precision Moly FP at 1.10 and Bear Creek Moly TC at 1.125 due to bullet shape variances. Find your ideal COL for your gun and work up from the recommended starting load for lead.

I run my 147gr at 1.135, granted it's over W231. Runs fine out of every type of gun I've put it through.

set mine at 1.12 as thats were they would fall free of the barrel on there own .. test fired 15 this morning at 3.4 grn they ran well no signs of over pressure. They made a small puff of smoke and ill have to see if that bothers me enough to not by a large lot of these. now i just need to hit up a buddy with a chrono.

Mike, what is your powder weight? I just loaded some 147's up for testing and I loaded 3.5gr,3.8,4.2gr with an OAL of 1.11-1.15 (5 rounds at each length). Hoping to shoot these soon, but I'm a bit worried about the 4.2gr loads. I'm going to save those for last...

Moly's going to smoke a little. No way around it. You can tune your load to reduce the smoke but it'll never be as clean as plated or jacketed. Very seldom does the smoke interfere with my shooting.
