375HandH
I've just completed converting my 1911 style 38 super race gun to 9mm. I'm using a Schuemann 9mm Bull Barrel with a Bedell Comp. I like the "push" feeling of the 147 gn rather than the more violent "crack" feeling of the 115 & 124 gn bullets. I,m open to all suggestions regarding powder, primer, and OAL. I plan on using Precision Delta's jacketed bullet. I was thinking of using Win. small rifle primers and Autocomp. I haven't been able to find any posting on the forum regarding Major 9 with a 147 gn bullet and need some loading data regarding powder, primer and OAL. Of course; I would work up to any load provided. I have a chrono and I'm not new to reloading. Thanks in advance for all your help.

I don't believe the twist rate in a Schueman is conducive to 147 in open. Your going to have to really cut back on powder and probably will not get much from the comp. In theory, the heavier the bullet the faster burn rate of the powder. Faster the powder, the less gas. In a non-comped gun, 147 are going to "push" versus "snap" the slide. Hi-Power Jack
I haven't been able to find any posting on the forum regarding Major 9 with a 147 gn bullet .375, when I started shooting 9mm major four years ago, I posted the same question - 147 gr for major. The consensus was you couldn't produce enough gas to make the comp work as effectively as the lighter bullets. Probably the 115's are little "better" than 124's, but most people seem to settle on the 124's because the 115's require a case FULL of powder to make major. (Air cooled racer still uses 115's). I was discouraged from even trying the 147's, so I have no first hand info to share with you, except that most people are going lighter, rather than heavier. Good luck, Jack
gng4life
I would say load up some 115/124/147 and try them out. I was forced into using some 147s in my Open gun (STI custom, trubor) last year. It was all I had and forgot to order more. Then when I did, they were backordered so I did shoot a little with the Zero 147 JHP. They weren't that bad, I was surprised. The dot was still decent and came right back down to center. There there still is more of a heavy push than a snap but it's very manageable. When I got my 124s in, I took them out and ran a few hundred of each against each other. I still settled on the 124s but like I said, I didn't feel a huge difference but enough to say that I wanted to stay with the 124s. I am going to try some 115s eventually but I haven't yet. My load was 7.0 of PP, OAL 1.165, SPM, once-fired brass, Zero 147 JHP and that came in at 171 PF last year at Area 6. With my popple holes, my setup seems slow so I would start at 6.0 and work your way up slowly.
