Jon Merricks
When there is a YouTube video embedded into a post I am not able to view it unless I copy the link then open. It's pain! Anyway to change this in the settings or with an app?
gamingoddess
When there is a YouTube video embedded into a post I am not able to view it unless I copy the link then open. It's pain! Anyway to change this in the settings or with an app? Have you tried it with other browsers? (IE, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) Are you trying to access it via laptop/desktop or on a mobile device? When you click on the video, what does it show? Is it gray? Black? Do any warnings or error messages pop up? Is this for every embedded video, or only embedded videos on this forum? When folks had problems on their computers, I would have them update Adobe Flash, enable cookies, or try another browser all together. Usually one of these would work... Jon Merricks
I'm using safari on an iPad. Where a still shot of the video should be there is a gray box with a circle and line through the play symbol. I don't think there is adobe for the iPad yet. Merlin Orr
Adobe Flash on Apple mobile devices....? Don't think it will ever happen. I believe that Adobe is going with a new tool will convert Flash files to HTML5 so they can run on Apple devices like the iPad and iPhone. gamingoddess
I think it's more up to the web designers versus the users to make embedded videos iPad (aka HTML5) compatible. Curious, try going to: http://www.youtube.com/html5 and click on "Join HTML5 Trial". You may have to have a YouTube account to sign up. After you have joined the trial, go to YouTube Blog and see if you can play the embedded video on your iPad. If this works, you're pretty much playing the video without using Adobe Flash. Jon Merricks
Thanks Di, I could play the video in the link but still not able to do it here.
BritinUSA
The Add Media icon that is used to embed the YouTube link contains an instruction to use flash when playing it. If you click the link and play in YouTube then the default flash setting is not there so you can play when accessing the link directly. Does this link work in an iPad ? http://youtu.be/owEKHjh6gnU Edited February 26, 2012 by BritinUSA

gamingoddess
Thanks Di, I could play the video in the link but still not able to do it here. Good to see that it worked. I don't own anything Apple (other than an old shuffle) myself...it's torture enough for me to handle Macs at work everyday. Once websites start moving towards HTML5, iPad users will be able to watch embedded videos. Until then though, hopefully someone here has some insight on how to enable embedded video viewing without using links. Diana
