Lentz
So I decided to step up to a big boys gun. I am going to get a model 25 chambered in 45 long colt. I was told if I moon clip the gun I could shoot 45 acp out of it. But I was told by a different source that if I do that I will lose accuracy. Any suggestions? I might just put an acp cylinder in it
Norther
I thought of doing that too. After discussing it with a friend who has done it (lousy accuracy) and realizing that my Colt loads wouldn't shoot anywhere near the ACP loads without readjusting the sights all the time, I decided the best route was to get a second gun when a friend decided to sell his. The cylinder on my 625 Colt is longer than the one on my 625 ACP, so getting a second cylinder fit may not be easy.
DougCarden
Josh, just pull the barrel off the 45 colt gun and put it on a 625 and be done with it if you can't find a 25-2. The cylinder throats are tighter on the 625 cylinder than either the 25 or 25-2. Good luck, DougC
anachronism
Personally, it sounds like a dandy excuse to buy another gun to me. Perhaps you could have a Model 57 cylinder rechambered to 45 ACP & fit to the gun. I measured my 629s cylinder, and you'd end up with too much freebore if you used a 44 mag cylinder, but I think the 41 mag cylinder is the same length as the 45 Colt cylinder, you'd want to verify this of course. A 357 cylinder would be shorter than the 45 Colt cyl IIRC.
chirpy
I had a 25 cut to 4" and an additional cylinder for .45 Colt. Accuracy was fine w/both cals. I tried to develop loads so that I didn't have to adjust the sights. Don't remember if I was successful or not. Sold it to finance another project...wish I hadn't! But one of my friends (who shall remain nameless but shoots Rugers) Got a Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt and is using it with the 45 ACP. He has done well with it so far but I don't know how good accuracy he has at long distances. I have no problems with a 38 super in a 357 cylinder. I loose a little velociy because of cylinder/barrel gap. It shoots as well as I do. Let us know if you go through with the project. festus1
I had Apex put a Ti acp cylinder in a 25-5 I found and mill the barrel to screw in a bit further in the frame to match up with the shorter acp cylinder. The gun was not very accurate with the 45 colt cylinder because of oversize throats but it is a one hole tack driver now.
