1911carry
So last season after shooting some local matches I decided to upgrade my shotgun. I bought an SLP. Little did I know that I should have bought the MK1. I now have a 18" 6+1 SlP and I am wondering if I should just fight through or sell it off and buy the MK1. I will be shooting my first "major/big" competition this year. Thanks ahead of time for the input!
lee blackman
Why whats wrong with it? What does the MK1 have that gonna make or break you?
1911carry
8+1 1 less reload on shotgun heavy courses! Other than that nothing
splitime
No one makes a magazine tube extension for the SLP? Or are you restricted by event rules.
1911carry
yea they make one... just wondering if it is worth investing in the shorter version!
Vipers
Just my two cents, but if you are already thinking of getting rid of it and or having to spend on mod's( you will still probably do mod's on an MK1 as well) might as well sell now, again my opinions-which are like a-holes, everyone has one. Will the 18" work just fine? Yes it will but if you are not 100% with it I would look at alternatives. I am only speaking cause I have made some mistakes and wished I had just off loaded it sooner and bought exactly what I wanted. Either way it will involve you spending more money and loosing money. Good luck! Edited February 24, 2012 by Vipers
Clint-M
Get the tube for now and shoot it, small investment. If you feel like it is holding you back you can sell the shotgun and keep the tube as an extra or sell it on here. They aren't that expensive and could potentially save you much more. Kali
The 18" also has ghost rings and the MK1 has the traditional bead/FO with a flip up rear. I prefer a vent rib with a bead vs ghost ring sights myself. YMMV.
1911carry
You are correct... the 18 does have ghost rings, not that I mind them! thanks for the input guys. Right now I am just leaning toward buying the tube and shooting it.
gng4life
Also, on a major match, there will probably be some targets that are further out and with the 18", you lose that velocity advantage. You can choke up some but that might not compensate for it. I've had some experts tell me that so I went from my tactical M1 18" to a M2 24" and I did tell the difference on a Texas Star once. Clint-M
The ghost ring sights was something I wasn't considering before but it really drives home the same point. Shoot what you're comfortable with now and upgrade when you feel your equipment is what is holding you back. Obviously most shooters prefer the longer barrel for velocity and a FO sight for quicker acquisition but unless you are fighting for every bit of advantage you can get you don't necessarily have to have those things. What you have will work, for now at least. Something else to consider is listing the shotgun and see what happens. Maybe it will sell in a half hour for your asking price and you'll be well on your way to getting a competition model. On the other hand, you might find no one is interested in it and you only receive lowball offers that you don't want to take. Just something to think about. 1911carry
I listed it on one of our local forums here in PA. We will see what happens. If I can get a decent price for it I will sell it and buy a different model. If I can't I will just keep it and buy the mag extension! Thanks again guys
