Steve D.
Rats!, I can not find ANY 9mm and 45 ACP New Dimension die sets from Hornady for brand-new LNL-AP on order!? ANY advice in the best quality PROGRESSIVE die Sets that one would expect to work well in LNL. I will use Powder thru expander so not a problem for expanding die. RCBS?, Dillon?, Redding? What about Lyman sets? They have that nice pair of seating studs for different bullet nose-shapes...nice thought. Standing By for the oracle to deliver the truth. Thanks as always, Steve
Merlin Orr
Dillon works fine for me in a number of presses and calibers....
Steve D.
Disregard Above... I just ordered the two sets of dies and the chamber gages for them from Brian's Dillon Store. In reading about those 3-die sets they do have some really nice features. Now if I can just keep the "Hatfields & McCoys" from fighing on my red press with blue dies while I am reloading everything should be great... Steve Don't worry, the dies aren't blue so your press will never know as long as you don't let it see the box they came in.
noylj
Sorry. My first choice is Hornady. My second choice is Lee. My third choice is Redding. For the money, you can't beat Lee. Buy the 3-die set and a taper crimp die. I ran tests on .38 Special and .45 ACP, loading various bullets, powders, and charge weights using Dillon, Hornady, RCBS, and Lee seating dies and crimp dies. Despite what I considered a "too generic" bullet seating stem in the Lee, after over 100 different loads, the Lee and Hornady seating dies (all other things being the same as best as I could achieve) were the most accurate. All taper crimp dies were equal, but the Redding Profile Crimp die was hands-down the best for roll crimps in the .38 Special. The Hornady New Dimension sizing die went down the cases further and were the smoothest to use. All other sizing dies seemed to be equal. You can order the Hornady sizing die, seating die, and taper crimp die by themselves from Midway (or order just the sizing die and seating die and get a Lee taper crimp die to save some money). DsWright
I have been 100% happy with my Lee dies, 4pc carbide sets in 9, 40 and 45. very consistent.
Steve D.
The Dillon .45 dies that I have used so far have been making ammo at +/- .001 OAL and Crimp dimensions of the target number. I'm feeling pretty good about that. On a side note, it is amazing how sizing effort is reduced to almost the weight of the LNL AP Press Handle alone when a microscopic amount of RCBS Sixing Wax is spread onto the casings by your finger when you pick them out of the pile to put in the shell-plate. Normally it is not much effort but the wax make it nearly un-noticable. So far the LNL is making really nice ammo and I am enjoying my entry into a new hobby.
