Kasteel
Just looking for some general opinions on this die. On other sites, opinions seem to be pretty inconsistent--more favorable than unfavorable on BE. Reasons why you like it or don't. Trouble shooting. Pros and cons. Let it fly! Cotys
I use it on an XL650 with 308. I shoot an HK-91 and don't want to risk any set back in the autoloader. The HK seems to really handle loading and brass extraction brutally, no fine finesse there. I don't use it on 5.56 in my ARs with 75 grain hornadys. I've not had any issues. Kasteel
Here is a thread on problems with the Lee FCD: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=140074&st=0&p=1575397&hl=lee%20fcd&fromsearch=1entry1575397 Any further thoughts on what the issue was, and how to maintain/adjust the die to avoid such issues? freakshow10mm
I used to use it but have since shelved it in favor of the Redding bushing sizing die and use that to correctly set proper bullet tension rather than relying on a crimp. Bullet tension is set by the sizing die and the bushing die allows precise control over the size so I can dial it in.
Kasteel
I used to use it but have since shelved it in favor of the Redding bushing sizing die and use that to correctly set proper bullet tension rather than relying on a crimp. Bullet tension is set by the sizing die and the bushing die allows precise control over the size so I can dial it in. I'll have to look into that. I hear that neck tension is the key--but no specifics on how to achieve the proper tension. Thanks for the suggestion!
freakshow10mm
Neck tension is set by the sizing button in the sizing die. You set the tension when you size the case. The bushing die allows you to fine tune it. The sizing button on traditional dies is whatever the manufacturer wants to size it.
Mike in CT
I think you will find a great deal of information, both pro's and con's of the Lee FCD on this forum and others. Some say it is the best thing next to sliced bread while others feel it is worse than a zombie attack. Personally I do use it and find that it works well for me. I think it is just a decision you need to make based on your situation and equipment you use. Mike Edited March 6, 2012 by Mike in CT
