steel1212
Want to hear your opinion TROJAN vs USPA signature series in .40 cal for USPSA and IDPA The USPSA 1911 is basically what I built when I built my custom 1911 in my avatar. A few different parts here and there buts they are essentially the same gun. If you have the funds I would go with the USPSA.
Mike21STI
Go with the Trojan and add the parts you want to it. You'll likely want a different magwell than the one that comes with the USPSA, and you'll probably have a trigger job done. Might as well spend the extra money on rounds and more magazines... Just my opinion
jarozzy
Not to long ago (6 months) I had both. I sold the Trojan to fund a limited gun. I loved them both but I got to say the USPSA is a lot nicer. It has checkered front strap vs the STIpple, the checker really makes a big difference. Some people say put skate tape on the Trojan, but if you are like me I hare the idea of putting ugly skate tape on my good looking toys. Also the USPSA has a stainless slide and tri topped. The Finnish on the Trojan does not hold up well. Overall I say if you have the money and like to shoot a good looking gun go with USPSA hands down. If you do not have the money or you don't care about looks then get the Trojan.

Rambo
I don't have any experience with the Trojan but I have the USPSA model in 45 and love it... I have added a fiber optic front sight and an extended mag release. For USPSA you will get a scoring advantage shooting Major power factor... jarozzy
If you are going to shoot any USPSA SS division or L10 i would definitely choose the .40. If you were to get the .40 you would be able to shoot USPSA SS and L10 and score major. In SS you can shoot 10rounds of minor, but most stages lend itself to 8 shots fairly well. When i shoot L10 with a SS1911 i reload about the same number of times as i do in SS with 8 rounds, reload as you move, so the advantage of 10 rounds does not help much if you shoot minor. You can then download the 40 for IDPA to get a softer shooting round. If you where to get a one 1911 to fit all (USPSA SS, USPSA L10, and IDPA) then 40 is what i would get. If you are getting two gun then get one of each.

co-exprs
The USPSA model comes with a forged frame, fitted slide and barrel and some tuning. The Trojan is a high quality production gun. They use good parts, but not much fitting and tuning. Trojan is also a cast frame rather than forged. Forged vs Cast isn't a huge deal, unless you are planning to put some serious milage on the chassis. If you are leaning towards the Trojan, you can get a souped up Spartan from Dawson Precision for about a grand. Spartan is about the same build quality as the Trojan and still comes with the same good barrel and good trigger parts. If you're looking for somthing in between, the Sentry comes with a forged frame and some fitting work as well. Just not as fancy looking.

Jaxshooter
I have an STI USPSA Single Stack. It is the only competition gun I own that was not a custom build. If I was going to build a SS it would be identical to the USPSA model. I a very happy with mine. All I had to do was touch up the trigger a little, no parts were changed. If I find a deal on a limited model I am going to buy it.

sfpmb
All this talk and I just couldn't resist. Just pulled the trigger to get a USPSA 40.
TriggerJockey
I think I'm gonna have to go with the USPSA in .40 as well. I think the only thing the USPSA has that I DON'T like is the recoil master. The good news is it is fairly cheap to go back to the good ol' solid guide rod. The tunability of the recoil master just doesn't jive with me, I like to get the springing just right and with only two choices of "heavy" and "light" it's no dice on the recoil master for me. USPSA SS here I come! (and solid guide rod)
tanfogliocoe
I like the uspsa model. I just wish it had front cocking serrations. Thats my only complaint.
sfpmb
Glad i did it. I love the pistol. I had the cash so i went for it. I like the look, it is an eye catcher at the match. I did the standard treatment, wide ambi's, Koenig hammer, EGW sear and disco, Mclearn long firing pin, 17lb ISMI MS, FLGR and 12.5 ISMI Recoil spring. I like my flat trigger and am migrating my other pistols this direction. The trigger rolls off at 2lb's. Mags for the 40 in 1911. With the following mags I have had zero issues. I use 45 ACP ACT-MAG's (Dawson base pads) I got from Brownells (use Enos's store link) and Wilson 47DE's I got on the classifieds. I like the ACT's more. The Wilson's are a larger diameter and just fit the space in the the frame more, not tight but its easier to feed the ACT mags into the pistol at speed.
