KungFuNerd
On the Make Ready with Mark Redl Intro to IDPA DVD He demonstrates kneeling and shooting around Low cover and says to put the INSIDE Knee down leaning out on the Leg that is up. Later in the DVD when he runs the Classifier he puts his OUTSIDE knee down both times. I know that the point is to make the shot while staying behind cover. What do you do? I feel more comfortable with the outside knee down and it seems to me that doing it the other way potentially hangs your leg out from behind cover. calvary45
I put my outside knee down for around cover and strong side knee for anything else. Seems to me if you put your inside knee down you will have no balance and from a cover prespective exposing most of your outside leg. Try it both ways to see what works best for you, i think you will know pretty quick which way is more stable.

KFN Depends on a: the width of cover; b: your flexibility/agility; c: how far you have to pie around; d: the scenario If the cover is narrow enough to move to engage targets from both sides, AND you have the agility to make the move, then inside knee down can allow you to move from engaging targets on one side of cover (providing you don't crowd the cover) to the other without moving your feet. Having an outside knee down can allow you to operate closer to cover and pie around further, and if you only have to engage from one side of the cover, getting into and out of the outside knee down might be quicker. It all depends on the scenario and the props.
nb forrest
I use both knees if possible. It gives me a more stable platform.
Paul-the new guy
+1 for both knees.
Duke Nukem
Inside Knee is more for real life not games. If you loose your balance you fall toward the down knee. So you fall you fall behind cover. If you fall and to your outside knee you fall out of cover and get new holes for your trouble.
CatsEye
If I don't have to get up and move again, like in the classifier, I go both knees down. It takes a split second longer but gives me a more stable shooting platform. Often in IDPA you will have to shoot from both sides of a barrel and both knees down provides the same support on each side. If I have to move from the low cover position I go outside knee down. hankfan79
Both knees. This also helps if you have to draw a magazine. Little bit harder to do if you weak knee is up.
salilus
I will default to both knees almost all of the time. If I have to move after kneeling, I will put the leg on the ground opposite of the direction of travel. So if I am exiting the low cover to the right I put my left knee down. Another factor that I consider is if I have to do a mag change at that position. Look at the angle of you mag pouch as you kneel. If you are right handed and only place you right knee down, your mag pouch moves to a funny angle.
RePete
I've always put my strong side knee down and haven't noticed any problems. YMMV.
shuey134
From years of competitve paintball I've learned to always put my outside knee down. When you're leaning around cover the outside down knee will be exposed less or not at all. If your inside knee is down you'll be fighting against the up leg to get out and make shots.
