Is 169 PF ( average 10 shot) enough cushion for a major? Fl.Open, Alabama A6

Solo 1000 4.5gr.

Bayou 180 oal 1.190

6 in Cameron

Unless your SD is huge and you are unlucky, sure. I've run 165.5 at numerous matches and never went minor. Had to shoot a few extra rounds here and there, but then I like a challenge.

Yeah, I hit 165.1 at Area 6 one year, that was scary. If you are chrono'ing now as cold as it's been the last few days, you may want to check them again a few weeks before those matches. I think you will be okay with Solo but you never know.

Now I shoot for 170-172 at home in hotter weather. I chrono'ed last year at three major matches between 169-171.

Also, I know you did a 10 round average but I don't do that anymore. Yeah, I've read on here about 10, 15, 20, and 30 rounds averages but do they do that at a Major? No, they take 3 rounds and average them. So I do about 10 - 20 groups of three round shots and look at those averages. If anyone goes below about 167, something gets changed to move up the PF.

Good luck...

Not enough information. How many rounds tested? What's your SD? What's the average of the slowest 6 rounds? Are all rounds 165 or higher? Have you replicated testing in different weather conditions? Have you checked bullets for consistency?

Larger samples give you a better predictor for what any given round will do. If you want to replicate what happens at a match, test samples of 20 rounds and measure the average of the slowest 6 rounds. If they pass, your overall average is where you'd like it to be, and your SD is manageable, you're good to go.

+1 At the end of a chrono session I average my absolute slowest rounds as a sort of worst case scenario.

Everyone has their own methodology that works for them. I replicate what happens at a match and I do not plan on deviating from it any time soon. It is just logical, they test three random rounds, I test three random rounds, etc. After the session, I do take a look at the slowest rounds and get the worst possible scenario but I feel the three round average groups are closer to what happens in the real world...to each his own. Thanks for the comment though...
