asimonp79
Hello guys bbbean: the IPSC in Israel began at early 80's when 3 Israeli pistol-fun shooters went to California for buiseness and they went to firing range. One of them ( Avi MOR) was amazed about the proffesionalizm of IPSC shooters. So all 3 of them started the sport in Israel. The days were bright then in Israel gun -market. Eather you had 1911 colt, 7 round MAJOR or High-power Browning 9x19 minor. that was it. IF you were REAL-DEAL shooter you updated it with sport sights, free- falling mags, extended mag for 8 rounds and was it. So then CZ landed and brought 16-round in the mag at the end of 80-th, then the it was big boom when Glock arrived in 1991-2 I belive. Even Para-ordnance that landed and brought the double stack 45" did not impact as much. But in IPSC lately ( for about the last 5 years) the CZ-shadow and Bull-M5-IPSC pistols is what it counts. At the last 2 years the SVI-STI and Infinity were seen at hands of the top 5 shooters, but still the Israel Production champion that competes with regular CZ-shadow can be as good as ( if not better) to any SVI-STi Major shooter The limitations in Israel are huge. In order to get gun license You have to compete in IPSC for 2 years ( but if you do not have a weapon eather you rent it on the range or ask for a friend), you have to compete at least 4 competitions per 9 month. The limitations of safety - all metal plates/poppers must be at least 15 metters ( 45 feet) away. The muzzle must not flip above the wall ( that would be depending on the range, but it is ussually 30 degrees up- so any mag-change-unloading would be LOW), and muzzle should not flip left or right beyond the "red limmit log". you can chek my chanel of youtube for videos - I videotaped for the last 3 eyars and uploaded to the web. youtube- asimonp79, but I did not videotaped myself for 3 years So Lately when I got to take 2-nd and 3-rd places in Standard devision ( the biggest devision in Israel) people videotaped me so... That is me Edited February 9, 2012 by asimonp79

imadvm
Hello, Thanks for all of the information on shooting competition in Israel. I wasn't aware of that. My wife is an NRA instructor and gives concealed carry classes. We visited Israel last summer and were amazed at how restrictive the firearm laws are there for the private citizen. In fact, yesterday she had printed out the Israeli regulations on who can own a firearm. From what I can tell,if you can qualify, you can only own one handgun and one long gun. Our guide in Israel was telling us how difficult it was to own a gun there and especially difficult to get a concealed carry permit. Anyway, it is great to have you as new member. Jerry P.S. asimonp79
Israel is a country of paradoxes Every male have to serve in army for at least 3 years. When you serve you can command platoon of tanks ( platoon=5 tanks, 20 soldiers) When you discharge from service - you can not havea lic" for any firearm The goverment doesn't want us to be armed. Every male after army will have "army reserve duty", every year, till he is 40. I have reserve duty every year for 40 days. Some are doing 56 days per a year. And when you get to "ARD" you get a M4, ammo etc. And still you have finnished - no weapon for you mate in your normal life I am from Haifa, have some friends in Shdod/Ashkelon
atomicbrh
Thanks for joining the forum asimonp79 and describing the details about life in Israel. For many years I had the misconception that Israel was all dust and desert. Then I saw one of the former Israeli Prime Ministers(cannot remember his name but he was a big guy) on television giving a interview on his Hereford cattle farm. The pastures on that farm were very green just like the farms in Mississippi. Before I take flack; in the Western U.S. they call them ranches. asimonp79
Juan We have real bad situation with all related to self-defence, we had a thief 2 years ago who hired a loyer to have a trial vs a man who trow him from a window. but the most famoust story is about cows. In 2007 in Negev desert there was a farmer named Shay Dromi The man woke up in 2 AM hearing his cows are being slotered, he went out and seen a truck leaving. So he missed few young cows and couple of thousands. that was not his irst time and not last... He went to police- they did nothing, he went and asked for firearm license for self defence. They asked him "what are you going to do- shoot them? It is only money". So he broke the law- he took his fathers riffle ( that is illegal in Israel- since you must have a license for YOU), so e-legal rugger 223 and ammo. in another 2 month the situation repeated itself. HE went out, with rugger in his hands, infront of him there were 4 robbers, with knives who killed few cows and were loading parts of bodies to the truck. They atacked- he shot 2 of them. He was arrested and the police began investigation- the charges were sirious: 1) illigeal gun 2) killing a man http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shai_Dromi So I am as a range officer always say to gun owners that come for renewal of pistol license: " You draw your gun only if a prison is worst option if you wouldn't draw it." In sport we have the IPSC standard/open/production/modified ( in that order with respect to number of shooters. So standard would be the biggest ( around 130) and modified around 12)

asimonp79
Juan In order to comepte in IPSC I had to pass a IPSC course - right? So we rented a pistols from shooting range and gave them back every time we finished. So people NEVER got the same gun durign shooting course meetings. After I got my IPSC memebership I had to compete 2 years with rented/my friends pistols that means - don't even dream about the same pistole most of the times. After I got 2 years I am alowed to send aplication form for license
