dskinsler83
Ok so I have initiated my long range project. I will add pics as I go but messed up already on that part lol. I started by trading my Savage M10 PC w/ my loved 5R 1:11.25" twist fluted barrel for a Remington Varmit SPS 308 w/ 1:12" twist 26" barrel and hingded floor plate mag. Step one was the ordering of various parts and things I wanted to add. I bought Devcon, action hand screws, a mag extenter, EGW bolt knob and replaced my older worn out Lee Turret press with a new Lee breech lock system. Next after so searching and comparing prices and options and so forth I decided to order a new Vortex Viper PST EBR-1 FFP in 6-24x54 w/ 1/4" MOA target turrets. Since the Remington has a great one piece 20moa base and Burris rings the top end is covered I think pretty well now. Next I compared and searched stock options and decided to go with the Bell and Carlson Medalist fully adjustable stock from Tactical Works as they had the best price of any others. Now I took it upon my self to do the bolt knob work and got it cut filed and threaded pretty nicely for a first timer I think but that where I messed up I forgot to do the before pics lol. I took the barreled action out of the sorry excuse of a stock that Remington sold the gun in and took it to Predator Customs in Knoxville, TN to be trued, lapped, blue printed, re-chambered with match grade precision. And no I am not sponsored by or supported by them but I recommend them for any kinda work. I have used them in them exclusivly for my rifle workings due to quality if work and craftsman ship plus they are local guys. Other wise I would have looked closely at Diablo Rifleworks. I now have what I consider a nice long range F T/R class rifle in the works. I have my reloading set up ready to work up my new loads w/ of course the loved SMK HPBT 175s and will be using neck sizing dies following chamber sizing of cases. I have a GemPro 250 on the way as well. So once I get my barreled action back from Predator Customs I will be bedding it in the new stock using the Devcon and will lap the 30mm rings and set my new scope up and add my mag extender followed by my Harris bipod. Pics will start coming soon. I credit alot of my inspiration from Ryan Phal over on YouTube to get me off my a$$ and start getting serious about accuracy and precision for long range. Comments and critiqueing is always welcome guys but keep it civil please. Hope y'all enjoy as I add to this. PS BTW once I have the money available aka next year lol I'll be replacing my factory crap barrel with a Rock Creek 1:11.25" twist 28" fluted barrel
DWFAN
Sounds nice. Just curious why you got rid of the Savage?
dskinsler83
Lol times are tight so that's how I got the remy plus the aftermarket stock options are almost non existent
dskinsler83
Don't get me wrong. That Savage is a great rifle that I traded to my buddy it is an awesome shooter and if I could have found a few more things for it I'd kept it. And the 20" barrel was just a lil to short for what I wanted.

dskinsler83
well here are some of the initial pics guys like i said i forgot to take the pics of the bolt handle prior to modification. please disregard the cluttered bench as i took these pics right before leaving to go to Predator Customs to drop off the gun. Here is the rifle in the original el cheapo stock (if you can really call it that) Here is the bolt knob I didnt wipe off the dirt on the handle so no guys it isnt scuffed up. Please not it has not been refinished in color yet So the base and rings are as follows. EGW base w/ 20MOA cant and Burris Xtreme low 30mm rings. dskinsler83
Well just waiting on my action to be completed at Predator Customs. I have my new GemPro 250 home and my new single stage press set up. I'm gonna have to full length size all my brass to get a head start on loading. Gonna get cracking on bullet choices. I'm thinking either SMK 175gr HPBT or the Berger 185gr VLD match target long range bullets. Also thinking of powder choices. R15, IMR 4064/8208 XBR. dskinsler83
Well I have been in contact w/ Jim Ruiz at Predator Customs and I am waiting to hear back if they have started on my factory barrel or not. If they havnt rechambered the factory 1:12 26" barrel then I will be putting a Rock Creek 1:11.25 twist custom barrel on my rifle. SO MY FACTORY BARREL MAY BE FOR SALE HINT HINT LOL (barely used at all btw ). If they have started on it then I will use it till it is used up and then rebarrel w/ said Rock Creek. BUT!! This means I will have to wait to bed my action for now but oh well. So still waiting to hear back from them on that and I am still waiting of my new scope to come in. Also I will be selling the factory stock if anyone knows what I should price that at let me know, or if yall want it let me know and give me a price. dskinsler83
So the action and factory barrel are back from the shop!!!! I am gonna hold off on bedding the action with the devcon until I get a new barrel. Now I have to get my rings lapped and am waiting on my dag gum scope lol. I am short of patients Any how the action and barrel look great even though they are still factory colored and need touching up. Fit into the new Bell and Carlson Medalist 2 Adjustable is great and now I am going to clean it up and lap the barrel with some JB bore paste and some Kroil. Get my new M118LR chamber measured out and find my rifling touching the ogive seating depth and get my brass all full length sized and annealed.
