jellyb
What does it mean if your gun does not lock the hammer in half cock? The hammer does lock all the way back. Thanks for any feed back.
feederic
What does it mean if your gun does not lock the hammer in half cock? The hammer does lock all the way back. Thanks for any feed back. The half cock notch is a notch on your hammer that would catch on the sear in case of hammer follow. The hammer would stop traveling at about half-way, and appear "half-cocked". You should also not be able to pull the trigger and drop the hammer in this position. I believe the notch was originally meant as the only 1911 safety. I also believe some hammers today are made without this notch, meaning if the hammer hooks and sear are damaged/out of spec the hammer could follow with no impediment and discharge the firearm. Aircooled6racer
Hello: If the hammer falls at half cock when you pull the trigger, the trigger is not going far enough forward to engage the half cock notch. Bend the trigger bow tab towards the rear to give more pretravel. Thanks, Eric
theactionshooter
Check the sear spring, it may not be seated correctly.
dsmw5142
Check the sear spring, it may not be seated correctly. This. If it happened after a tear down, take it back apart and pay careful attention to the orientation of the sear legs, sear spring and disconnector. I've had it happen before too. jellyb
Thank you all for your advice. I was able to correct the no half cock. The sear was not seated correctly after tear down. Thanks Again. Jellyb
