Now we have had our Turkey, Xmas pud and dreams on two handed beer steins, lets get back to the thread. It is not up to the NRA to market Action Pistol. it is up to every shooter that shoots it to make it grow. It is up to us to make it available to every shooter that is interested and make them feel welcome.I know this will sound like heresy but there are a lot of shooters of Action Pistol that have not and possibly never will shoot the Bianchi cup.We hold coaching clinics for the lower grade shooters before some of the shoots. Put an up and coming shooter in an experianced squad so he/she can be mentored.Lend them a pistol or gun share with them. You don't need a mover to shoot AP. There are training drills that can be done on static targets and then the shoot on a moving target is not that different.

I suppose what I am saying is that it is up to us to promote(market) our own sport and it is up to the NRA to promote (market) the Bianchi Cup.

The draw for me to shoot Action Pistol is Bianchi. I know how fortunate I am that I live close. It's an exciting world event, with the worlds best shooters, that happens in my back yard once a year. For myself that's what makes it worth the large investment in time and money. It's hard to dabble in Action Pistol. To do well you must have the most accurate and dependable equipment, and do your homework on the par times. I was lucky to have local shooters to learn about the match ect. before going to the Cup. The NRA can advertise the match but it's up to the competitors to help new shooters learn the match and not get overwhelmed. Without a local club and existing competitors providing guidance, I don't know how a new shooter would succeed.

If you don't plan on attending the Cup then I don't think the mover is an issue. If you do plan on attending, and want to do your best, then you need to practice on a real mover. You need to get a feel for the timing, tracking and fluid motion needed to maintain a good sight picture.

After re-reading all of these posts, Did NRA ever actually take any of these suggestions to heart?

I shoot at the Tallahassee Rifle Pistol Club. They (the club) continue to have Bianchi Matches monthly but have dropped the NRA affiliation due to numerous problems on the NRA side, Mainly cashing the checks sent in for match fees but continuing to pester the club for not making the payments, as well as failing to register scores sent in. We had one shooter who shot for 6 months straight and the NRA never did send him his classification card.

I shoot AP as often as possible. I shoot USPSA once or twice a year. If Tallahassee ever drops the match, I don't know of another action pistol match within 5 hour drive. But there are 7 USPSA clubs withing a 3 hour drive. That is one main reason NRA AP has fallen over the years. Availablility.
