RippSpeed
I'm interested in building an STI chambered in 460 Rowland... I figure since most STI barrels can accept longer than SAAMI lenght ammo. Is it possible to have a 45 acp barrel (from Schuemann, KKM, STI, Bar-Sto) fit a 460 Rowland; I mean its only 1/16" longer than your standard 45acp... Larry White
Clark Custom Guns are pretty much the go to folks for .460 Rowland. They have drop in kits with the right springs, barrels, ammo, load data ect. The .460 in a 1911 really needs a comp, both for control and to keep fron beating your pistol to trash. I think Clark has discontinued the ramped barrels for the Rowland. This conversion is not quite as strait forward as it would seem, feeding in a double stack can be a issue. Benny Hill at Triangle Shooting Sports has done a bunch of these pistols. Hell of a package, .44 mag power in a 1911.------------Larry Edited January 7, 2012 by Larry White
acekc
I guess that's one way to make Major.
superdude
Cartridge overall length for the 460 Rowland is the same as the 45 ACP. Only the brass is longer.
JSCHIEFEN
Built a 460 three years ago on a 2011 frame Have carried it as bear backup in the mountains and Alaska for 3 yes. Have 500 S&W and 454 Cassul wouldn't carry them again. My 460 setup can hold 14rds and with the comp I can put all 14 on a charging pig target faster than getting 5 on target with 454. The 500 isn't even close. With big bears lots of lead is what counts. I would build another one without thinking, and I'll always thank Ron Avery for his ideas and imput on the project. rtl
JSCHIEFEN: I have STI 2011 based 460 Rowland too and have sometimes nose dive problem. More info in PM. Jiri I have one of these on a Springfield XD Tac 5" 45. I had the same issue using Roland's extra power mag spring but doubling up on the standard magazine springs solved my nosedive issues, might be worth a shot. 38superfan
It's a really nifty platform. The comp ids required to slow the slide down. Certainly helps with recoil management as well. I'm torn between building a single stack in Rowland or just buying a Blackhawk in 45 colt....
Aircooled6racer
Hello: How about 10mm? Thanks, Eric
accu9
I had a Kimber eclipse Target converted to 460 rowland w/ comp and 24# recoil spring. Super fun, brass just became impossible to find so I sold it. If you go that route, I had a great experience with Clark Custom.
Jiri
JSCHIEFEN: I have STI 2011 based 460 Rowland too and have sometimes nose dive problem. More info in PM. Jiri I have one of these on a Springfield XD Tac 5" 45. I had the same issue using Roland's extra power mag spring but doubling up on the standard magazine springs solved my nosedive issues, might be worth a shot. Sorry for late answer. I am trying to find out 100% reliable combination. I have tried to open a little the feed lips. I installed different followers. I have recoil springs form 17.5 to 26 pounds. The same main springs, from 16 to 30. Also I have square firing pin stop to slow down the slide. Two different recoil buffers too. I am trying many different bullets: 230 XTP 230 Hornady FMJ FN 185 Speer TMJ FP 200 Sierra FPJ Match 230 S&B FMJ 225 FPBB Ares (coated hard cast bullet) with Vectan SP2 and Lovex D037.1 powder (Lovex D037.1 is similar to Accurate #7). Result: If there are double magazine springs in 140mm magazine, it works 100% whatever springs are in gun. But magazine capacity is reduced to 10. Any load/spring/buffer/no buffer/different magazine/follower/rounded or square firing pin stop etc. is not 100% reliable. Nose dive or "not full in battery" occurs. Will try more combinations and will try to fine tune to work with factory 14 rounds magazine. What a challenge! Thank you all for help. And of course, the pistol light will not handle the recoil of 460 and falls apart. http://www.460rowland.cz Jiri
Jiri
Update: When OAL reduced, 140mm magazine with dual springs can take 12 rounds. Jiri
