rvb
Hello, not really a reloading question, but didn't know where it fit better.... Looking for a good ammo choice for my 642 .38 spl +p carry gun. I've been using Speer, but it seems to have hard primers, and occasionally I get a light strike that requires me to pull back around and hit it a second time. I like the accuracy, but the light strikes are way too common. The gun is bone stock. No trigger work, etc. Thanks! -rvb
Pstmstr
Buffalo bore lead semi wad cutter hollow points are a great carry load for a snubby.
RevolverJockey
I carry 148 WC, but a lot of people also like the Federal Nyclad. I have always felt that you could not count on expansion from a 38 snub nose and the next best thing was flat and heavy hence the 148 WCs. felt
I carry reloads, running the dardas 148g HG WC with 3.6 grains of solo 1000, federal primers and new federal +p nickel plated brass. I've also played with flipping the hollow based zero wc backwards, but they get squirrelly past 21ft.... Ymmv

twodownzero
I just loaded some 158 round nose with 3.5 of Solo 1000. I'll let you know how they run when I get a chance to get to the range. I formerly loaded 3 grains of Clays for a real mouse fart! I carry the 135 short barrel Gold Dot. The newer tiny plastic 9mm bottom feeders are making me second guess my choice with the 642, but I have no excuse not to have a gun with me, either. Recoil seems to suck no matter what I shoot in it. felt
Twodownzero, I had the same problem, and being a bit of dyi guy I found a rather easy fix. I used a bike tube, a standard issue mtn. bike tube works great. I cut a few strips to cover the backstrap then cut a section of the tube and slid it over the entire grip. The few extra millimeters of cushion does help, even when shooting +p loads.
