G17fan
Hello again, I am now ready to get a scale for measuring powder and was wondering if a cheap scale from Harbor Freight Tools would do the job as long as it is calibrated. Thoughts?
acekc
I think that Harbor Freight items have their place but I wouldn't want to use one of their scales for reloading. I poked around on their web site and it appears that they only have one scale that even measures in grains. One of the reviews of that scale says that a reviewer tried to use it for reloading and found that it had two grain resolution. Not 0.2 grain but two grain. That is unusable for reloading in my opinion, especially for handguns. Midway has the Frankford Arsenal digital scale on sale right now for just a few bucks more than the above HF model and it has 0.1 grain resolution most of the time. I include that last part because I've used the FA scale and sometimes it increments by 0.2 grains at a time. A lot of cheaper scales do this because they internally convert from grams to grains which can cause resolution "gaps" at the grain level. If you don't mind spending more to step up, the Jennings Mack 20 has 0.02 grain resolution. I don't use that model but I do have a different scale with 0.02 grain resolution and I find the extra resolution helpful.
Sarge
I love my Dillon Dterminator Digital scale. I have had no problems in three years of steady use. Brian now sells a couple of really good scales in his store as well. http://www.brianenos.com/store/be.scale_hp.html http://www.brianenos.com/store/be.scale_be.html http://www.brianenos.com/pages/dillon/pics.550_opt.acc.html#scale
G17fan
Thoughts on the Hornaday GS-1500 at Midway?
Sarge
Thoughts on the Hornaday GS-1500 at Midway? I get the fact that you are trying to do this on a budget but not many things related to shooting or reloading are conducive to staying within a budget. Have you read the reviews of this scale on midwayusa? It is hard enough to get good, accurate, consistent powder drops and measurements. A very good scale is virtually a requirement if you want to get the most from your reloading results.
Nightrain
Not to hijack the thread.. But other than scales are there any digital scale/dispensers that have better than .1 accuracy?

Just wanting to stay on a budget but get what is needed to do the job. Thanks.
GrumpyOne
I've had no issues with my RCBS scale. Look on ebay for deals.
Cburlette
The best deal I have found is the E Author Brown 011-JSX electronic scale: http://www.eabco.com/electronicpowderscale.htm $29 and it measures to .1 grain. I have been using this scale for about 3 month's and am very happy with it. If you absolutely need to know to the .01 grain what your load is then drop 10 charges into the cup and divide by 10. Sarge
Hmmm.... these seem very similar. http://www.eabco.com/electronicpowderscale.htm http://www.brianenos.com/store/be.scale_be.html
Cburlette
Yep, they look exactly alike! This one is the 1540 grain scale sold by eabco for $32. Craig
