Jody Waring
Just wondering what you guys prefer to feed your TS with respect to bullet profile, OAL, cast vs fmj vs plated etc... Bullet weight, you get the picture. Also, what about crimp? Any tips for increasing feeding reliability? Any beand brass cause extraction problems? Look forward to any tips you might have. Thanks! kitestir
TS OAL discussion I have both the older IPSC ST and the TS. I load at 1.135 for both. You can go out a little longer if you like, but I seemed to have the best results with these. The TS I started to get a few jams out around 1.150-1.160. But that may just be my gun.... At 1.135 I have never had an ammo related jam that I can remember. As for bullets- I have seen multiple posts on here that the TS does not like JHP bullets. I have never tried them myself, but you should be able to find some post about it witht he search. I have used a BUNCH of Berry plated 180 grain Round Nose Flat Points (RNFP) and have never had an issue. They are plenty accurate and was getting them pretty cheap. I have also shot Bear Creek Moly 180 RN and have had decent accuracy with these as well. This is all assuming that you are asking about .40, I have never owned a 9MM.. Jody Waring
I have tried two different bullets so far, and both needed to be seated to 1.130-1.135 to clear the rifling, feeding has been excellent so far. Had an issue with extraction when I first got the pistol, and I replaced the extractor with a new one and out of 250 or so rounds I had one fte, but that could have been a fluke. The ONLY feeding issue I had was- I dont crimp much and one round fetched up on the edge of the case, more crimp likely would have prevented this. Most of my brass is once fired therefore its in pretty good shape. Is there any brands that might not extract consistently due to rim thickness, diameter etc...Thanks for the tips! StevenR
I've run a lot of Zero 180 JHP with mostly Federal brass, without issues. Use Lee dies just taking the flare off @ 1.135. Did strengthen the extractor spring a touch for the couple of fte's, no problem since. Did run two thousand Zero 180 rnfp without a hitch also. Neomet
180 FMJ seems to be the most popular at 1.130 to 1.135. I've run that combo (Montana Gold) for 5 years with no feeding issues. Several report issues with JHP projectiles. I have shot them as well with no problems. .
Jody Waring
I so far have used a 180 gr TC plated, and a 180 gr RNFP plated and the only hang up thus far with feeding has been the one I mentioned, and a slight increase in crimp likely will cure that. Neomet, a fmj obviously would fit the bill, but I am unaware of any I can get locally, but will shop around. Any of you guys using the LEE bulge buster? Jody Waring
When it comes to loading- I am JUST getting into .40, this is my first gun in this caliber; what about powder selection? I see that the S_I guys and 1911 guys in general can load a little longer OAL, but it seems I will be at 1.130-1.135 for this gun MAX so should I stick with slightly slower powders to avoid pressure issues? Thus far, I have only loaded with WSF but have lots of Titegroup, and WW 231. My initial research led me to believe that with the short OAL I should avoid the faster powders, but being a stickler for experimenting, have any of you guys found a sweet combination that is perfect for the TS? I have loaded 5.0 and 5.4 of WSF with a plated AIM (made in Canada) projectile. The 5.4 was from the Hodgdon website and was pretty snappy, but tolerable. What should I expect with a load say with Titegroup or 231? Would it be worth looking at a powder on the fast side of the slower ones? I found so far with WSF I have been getting a lot of crud built up around the extractor, and we all know that isn't the best thing for CZ's. Thanks for any tips you would like to share! Neomet
Angus recommended N320 years ago when I got my TS and still does I believe. I have nothing but praise for the powder. I have also used Solo which does not meter quite as well.
Jody Waring
I am going to have to try and find some as I've never tried it.
SDM
I've been using a Bayou 180, with 4.8gr W231. OAL is 1.14, with a .420 crimp. Early on I'd loaded some a 1.15 and they were hitting the rifling.
StevenR
I use vvn320. Have used WST and WSF, prefer WST. WSF was lower pressure(at least by primer flattening), but had a heavier recoil. WST was real similar to VVN320, but leaked out of my cheap powder measures.
Jody Waring
I find WSF snappy as well that is what makes me think I should try something a little faster. Any pressure sights with WSF?
kitestir
I use titegroup at 1.135 and around 4.7gr. I am using plated bullets so they are a little easier to get to major then FMJ. I get around 167 PF. I would try in the mid 4's and work up checking for signs of pressure.
