dillon
I am in the process of scoping my M1A- it sux when your eyes don't cooperate- and figure since I don't need the front sight, I can change the flash hider out. I am aware of the Troy Industries and Sure-Fire comps, but am looking for something meant more for 3 gun work. Any suggestions?
Bryan 45
I use a SJC Titan on my M1A. It works well, but it a little more obnoxious than most. Smith makes an adapter, available from www.no-kick.com that allows you to use any 5/8" .30cal comp. If you want to go w/ it, your options are limitless. Classic_jon
I have a Benny Hill Rolling thunder on my AR and I like it. Powerfactor shooting has them on sale at the moment http://www.powerfactorshooting.com/product_p/thundercomp-used.htm
Langenator
Battle Comp sells a kit with an adapter that allows you to retain your front sight. http://battlecomp.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=33 Pricey, though. TMC
I have a JP on mine, the big tank brake. It's no longer available from JP with the M1A front sight base but man does it work! Maybe you can find one second hand or a regular threaded one with the adaptor listed above.

bunsen27
One note about the SJC Titan comp and SE adapter route: you will need a crush or peel washer (comp does not come with one) to properly time the comp unless you intend to have a gunsmith properly time the comp for you by removing material from the back of the comp. I initially went the route of washer, but had a gunsmith properly time it for me to resolve a bullet deflection issue. Very good comp and quite happy with it both in effectiveness and aesthetics on a M1A. Just make sure all the pieces line up well with your bore axis. Best I can remember it only took about 240 passes. It doesn't look as good as a smith-timed piece, but after shooting it, I'm so scared of the comp I don't want to get close enough to see the difference. ken hebert
http://www.deltapdesign.com/accessories-store/m14-muzzle-adapter Pat Kelley, you know, Mr Heavy Metal, Mr M1A, recommended this to me and it works like a charm. with a timed Rolling Thunder comp (no crush or peel washers) its pure sweetness. BTW, thanks Pat.
Dan Sierpina
I have the adapter on it's way from No Kick, that Bryan mentioned. They had them in stock, so, I'd rather spend the difference in bullets,(Sorry, Pat). As for the comp, I've made my own for a heck of a long time, so that's what will be on my M1A at the He Man Nationals. The M1A is best suited for iron sights, and that's what I'll be using. Mine was about 185 degrees off of being properly timed. Sandpaper was not an option. Also I inadvertently mis-spoke the material was removed from the SE adapter not the SJC brake. The threading on the adapter was much longer than the threaded section of the brake.
mike4045
I will be taking mine to Benny to get it installed correctly. Will also be taking my DPMS 308 by to get fitted with a better comp than the factory one. Mike
BurritoBandito
Haven't used a 308 version of the Arredondo but if it's as good as the 223 version I'd try that.
