Brazos Custom
Eric, The cut is a simple square 0.030 deep. Any gunsmith with a mill can do it no problem. I can walk them through it when you get ready.
NMinzghor
Anybody using a swenson safety? How do you like it? How is the cut compared to an Ed Brown? I have to file the heck out of my Ed Browns so they don't dig into my hands. Where is the best place to get one?
diehli
Do a search... lots posted on 'em (EricW is the most notable, I believe).
EricW
I have Swensons, and you'll spend HOURS fixing and polishing them so they work. It's just not worth it. Mine have yet to break, but Swensons are famous for their lack of durability. Go to www.1911store.com and order a left and right thumb shields from Brazos and use a regular safety. Then you'll have a setup that's durable. It's what I'm going to do when my Swenson's croak. Maybe sooner.
RC1
Nick, I had the same problem with the Swensons on my shorty. I had to grind on them quite a bit to get them to quit biting me. See you at the Crock. Rick
Flexmoney
NMinzghor, I merged your thread into an existing thread on the same subject. If you do a search you will find some more info too.

Rufus The Bum
I said to hell with it and decided to order a set of Swensons from Brownells since they have a no questions asked return policy. Needless to say, they immediately went back to Brownells, I mean they were pitted BIG TIME and the finish was the worst I have EVER seen on any product. I'd be embarrased to put that part on my pistol, even with ALOT of work.
austex
From the posts in this old thread, my impression is that the Swenson safety may have had some quality issues. Have those issues been resolved since the patent expired?
mpolans
From the posts in this old thread, my impression is that the Swenson safety may have had some quality issues. Have those issues been resolved since the patent expired? No... Someone (STI? RIA? Anyone?) needs to hurry up and make a better copy of these things at a reasonable price. IIRC, the patent has been expired for over a year.
shooterbenedetto
mmmm....I have ordered one recently and have no complaints. I fitted one and works on my gun no problem. I did however got it burning hot and diped in oil to get the metal hard after reading this post.
dbltapipsc
If your handy with a welder just take asmall piece of steel sheet and tig it to your safety. blend it, much cheaper than buying a swensons
