Matthew_Mink
I have been sweating this one out for about 3 months. SBC hasn't had a strike since 1983. We were due. No side wanted to give. Shooting season quickly approaching. Union goes out on strike, just 2 weeks before Area 4. Strike settled quickly, tentative agreement in place, everything looking fine. Flexmoney
It was only a 4-day strike...scheduled even! (One of my old room-mates works for SBC and he tried to get me to go out drinking the whole time.)

Uh, did he have to twist your arm much? Troy
Flexmoney
Not too much. But, we have to be careful not to go out like we did "back in the day"...we are out of training for that kind of abuse.
Matthew_Mink
Yeah, that 4 day scheduled strike was a joke. The CWA (union) realized that they weren't gonna have too many followers if they went out on an extended strike, so they scheduled it to where the workers were only going to lose two days wages. It had zero impact on SBC. They had the managers staff the union workers jobs, and apparently we did a good enough job nationwide. Now that it got some media coverage, I can't count the people that has called me asking how they can get a job with SBC, because the union folk had better benefits and pay than they did! And it appears that the CWA signed the contract that was initially offered to them. So their workers lost more money in two days of not getting paid than what they gained in the contract.
