warpspeed
I have been shooting my open steel gun in the white for awhile now and have decided to have it blued. I want to remove the comp from the barrel. Are there any tricks to this? Anything I should be aware of?
shred
How it was put on? Most are green sleeve-retainer locktited on there, which is somewhat difficult to remove. If your smith used something different (red locktite, silver solder, shoe goo, setscrew, whatever), then you'll need to adjust accordingly. warpspeed
So do I just warm it up in the old kitcken oven ?
Sixgun
Warpspeed, The guys in my club will boil water and let the comp soak. Since you are only heating the comp up to 212 deg. you won't do anything to the heat treat on the comp and barrel. You can also use a tea kettle and steam the comp, which is actually better in my opinion, since steam under pressure will actuall be hotter than 212 deg and still less than 400 deg. Once again it's not going to ruin heat treat, like trying to heat it up with a torch. Ray

hearthco
Not to worry. Most barrels today are made of 416 Stainless heat-treated to approx 40RC. It does not draw back.
