Convert-A-Pell

Check out this conversion to allow firing primer powered pellets in your blaster:

I'm thinking my timer might just pick up the sound of the primer, which could make dry firing a lot more interesting.

I'm going to order one and use it in combination with Steve Anderson's book and see what the heck happens. Worse case I'll just use it to whack pests around the yard, as 500 fps is pretty good for a pistol and magnum primers might boost this up a hair.

My guess is it won't cycle the slide, but could be fun for single-shot drills (of course if it's only the noise you want, you could just hand-cycle primed cases for the same effect)

Beware of airborne lead from the primers too.

I'm guessing the shipment will arrive Friday, so I'll let everyone know how well it works. I'm going to set it up on a spare barrel/slide and hope I can get the pellets reasonably sighted in. I'll also chrono the pellets to see if that 500 FPS is real, and if magnum primers make any difference.

The noise is a good thing if my timer will pick it up, but the pellet means I can get instant feedback on sight alignment. Whacking squirrels and chipmunks would be an added bonus.

I really want to get much better at drawing the gun, getting a solid sight picture, and putting a round in the A zone as quickly as possible. This conversion should help with that, as well as calling my shot. If the conversion helps with this (and it should), the $50 I spent for the conversion and extra cases will indeed be money well spent.

I have had one of these for years and it has worked very well.....The sound of the primers is definitely enough to trigger any shot timer. Magnum primers are loud! Lots of fun in the garage but be very careful, the 500 fps claim is conservative if anything and pellets can do lots of damage. Since the barrel insert is rifled it is very accurate at moderate ranges. I use a trap built from a cardboard box with a heavy cotton towel in the back to stop the pellets.

I'll have to second Larry on pellets being dangerous. That thing looks like super fun to whack squirrels with but for dry fire practice if you want something that will stop the timer and give you instant feedback, I like the rubber X-ring bullets. Accurate out to 7-10 yds and if you miss your bullet trap it is a piece of rubber bouncing around the garage not lead. And yes you need a bullet trap with the X-ring bullets. I use cardboard box with bubble wrap inside.

Enjoy,

Dan

If I want to hit the target it appears the x-ring bullets will have to do. Delta no longer carries the convert-a-pell for the 1911. It seems like they could have mentioned that when they e-mailed the invoice, but instead they stapled a note on the invoice in the package. Of course they DID ship me the spare c-a-p rounds I ordered for the c-a-p they didn't ship me.

Another vote for rubber bullets. ( I have some from Speer )

A large sturdy blanket hung from the rafters will stop them, and serve as a backboard for your targets too.

I used to shoot these alot , until I found out that the major cause of airborne lead was actually from the primers.

PMC " Green" primers would make me use them again, if I could find the dang things anywhere.

Hey guys, I have an Advantage Arms .22 conversion for my Glock 19. I use the Aguila Colibri ammo. I have not cronoed it but I expect it would be in the 600 fps area. Haven't tried it with the timer yet. Shots will touch at 10 feet, and from across the basement (10 yards maybe) they are about 2-3" apart. Not too bad I guess. It will not cycle the slide.
