this would be a great resource Matt..thanks for chasing down the information.

The Dawson description of a factory adjustable is confusing. And translating the both shops measure the sight height from different places and use different increments of measure.

I have this sight for my shadow target (LPA adjustable rear). I installed the .170 x.090 serrated front sight. I'm out of town at the moment, but if you don't get the info you need I'll pull the sight and post the measurements. Keep in mind I already fitted the sight so it won't be exactly as it comes from the factory.

I will take mine off in a bit to measure it for you. I ordered a .150 to replace my 75 shadow sight. The height of the stock sight was pretty close to the .150 height and so far it seems like the replacement is right on. They are measuring from the top of the slide to the top of the sight.

My Dawson .150 x .100

A-B = .146

B-C = .055

A-C = .151 (that is also the measurement from the top of the slide)

I am using this on my 75 Shadow with the fixed shadow rear sight.

What is their .215 high front sight used for ? Anyone know ?

Not sure... the current sight on my TS is 0.215", but that's from the top of the slide, so it is about 0.270" total, if Dawson measure them that way. (Which they seem to, based on Strick's measurements.)

A-C is not the measurement from the top of the slide - A-B is. The dovetail (B-C) is within the slide, as that is how the sight is mounted and retained.

Yep you are right, it was .205. Sorry about that.

D'oh, I didn't even look at your numbers either, which didn't add up. That's what I get for posting right before running out the door. :roflol:

Which means Dawson measures the height-above-slide, which would mean that their 0.215" is appropriate for a TS. This also makes sense when I double-checked on CZC - they measure total height, and I recall that Dawson and CZC use different (or "opposite", if you will) measurements.

Here is what I came up with on my Shadow Target with the LPA sights:

Original Fiber (measures 6.0mm for me):

A-B = .156

A-C = .235

B-C = .79

Height above slide = .170

Dawson Serrated .170

A-B = .170

A-C = .229

B-C = .059

Height above slide = .170

The height above slide is the important part. The overall measurements on the original FO sight put it .001 short of the 6mm Sight from CZ Custom. I can't find a direct reference for what size CZ custom says they put on the Shadow Target. I think the FO is more tapered which accounts for the weird measurements on the original.

can someone with the dawson sights get me these 2 measurements and which sight you have from them

SIGHTMEASURE2.jpg

The blade on my original FO sight floats above the slide with a small gap between the bottom of the blade and the top of the slide. If you measure by compressing the caliper over just blade as shown I think you'll get a short reading.

Walkure,

Is the Dawson .215 on your TS with the fixed or adjustable rear sight?

Not a Dawson - my TS (and my Shadow) uses a stock CZ black front, trimmed and serrated myself. I run fixed rears on everything; stock TS rear on my TS, and a CZC competition on my Shadow.

IT would appear that concerning front sight height:

75/85/sp01 factory height is cz custom's 5.5mm

shadow f/o factory height is cz custom's 6.0mm

custom shops tactical/competition/LPA "bo-mar" style replacement sights use a 6.5 mm

T/S factory fixed use a 7.5mm

Dawson .170 height = custom shop 6.0mm

Dawson .215 height = custom shop 7.5mm

Sound right?

Based on the shared measurements in this thread, I've calculated the below data.

Assumptions:

a. B-C measurement = 0.057 (average of 0.055 & 0.059)

b. 1 inch = 25.4 mm

Dawson Sights @:

[1] 0.170": (0.170 + 0.057)*25.4 --> ~ 5.76 mm or 5.75 mm

[2] 0.175": (0.175 + 0.057)*25.4 --> ~ 5.89 mm or 6.00 mm

[3] 0.195": (0.195 + 0.057)*25.4 --> ~ 6.40 mm or 6.50 mm

[4] 0.215": (0.215 + 0.057)*25.4 --> ~ 6.91 mm or 7.00 mm

[5] 0.240": (0.240 + 0.057)*25.4 --> ~ 7.54 mm or 7.50 mm

* Results in BOLD should be comparable to those from CZ Custom

Dawson .215 height = custom shop 7.5mm

this is exactly what i got but i would suggest the .215 for the shadow target so you have full range of the rear adjustable sight

Mods - Please sticky this thread.

FYI, I replaced the front site on my CZ 75 Shadow Target (stock was 6.0mm x 3.1mm CZC #10082) with the Dawson .175"x.100". I really dig the extra light around the front sight blade. POI was bang on at 15 yards. Contrary to popular belief I think the thinner blade is better for target/group shooting when setup for POA=POI. I'm guessing the fatter front sight is better for a 6 o'clock hold but that's not how I roll.

I also tried the CZC 6.0mm x 2.75mm front sight. It required quite a bit of filing to make it fit. I had to file a bunch of material off the bottom of the sight just to get it started in the dovetail. It probably took me an hour to fit the sight and by the time I was done it was slightly canted. Either I didn't take material evenly off the bottom of the sight or the dovetail was milled incorrectly. Out of the box (bag), the Dawson sight went into the dovetail about halfway before it got really tight. It only took a few swipes with the file and I was able to tap it home without beating the snot out of it. I'd recommend the Dawson sight over the CZC replacement.

Corey, if you are after the serrated front sights from DP, there are only 2 choices (however, you can always request for a different height). With that said I went with 0.170inches x 0.090in.

POA=POI at 25yds with factory rear Shadow. Anything closer is just a little high. YMMV. I made the switch from F/O to serrated front 2 weeks ago. What a difference!
