.40AET
http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ Dawson Precision is stocking the ZM Stainless mainspring housing for S*I guns. They are carrying them in flat and arched versions for $60 bucks.
MoNsTeR
Are the ZM's checkered 30lpi? I like my SV SS MSH but its 20lpi checkering is a little coarse for my tastes.
ErikW
Monster, yes. Well, I assume it's 30... it's much finer than 20.
shred
It may be 25 LPI. Somehow that rings a bell.
redmercury2
I have several of the ZM s and think they are the best ive used. Brownells doesnt seem to have/get them anymore though. 60 bucks?? YIKES
shred
FYI, Dawson's is now making the ZM's. Given the lack of other Dawson products in the Brownells catalog, I wouldn't expect them soon. Has anybody ever worn out or broken a MSH?
eerw
I have three of the ZM arched ones..from years ago..one is on my open, one is on my STI 9mm and the other will go on my limited gun...never have had a problem with them...glad someone is making them again.. Interceptor
Is there some kind of performance gain with these? Like from the weight increase? Or the more aggressive checkering?
Flexmoney
(1*), It's more of a pointability thing. The more arch you have in the MSH, the more "nose up" the muzzle will be when you grip it. You can see this issue with shooters that switch between a gun with a "flat" MSH (many 1911's are setup this way) and guns with an arched grip (like a Glock). If the shooters don't do a ton of live/dry fire practice when shitching, then they tend to point the gun either too high or too low (depending on which grip they are on and which gun they are used to). The ZM arched MSH is only special in that it fits the double wide, S_I guns.
eerw
At the time it orginally came out..it was the only metal MSH for the STI/SV framed guns...and that came out with arched, wedge or flat... the only thing available was the flat factory polymer MSH...there wasn't even a heavy magwell yet... .40AET
1* in addition to ergonomics, there is a slight weight increase which would help tame some recoil. I would put money into a heavy magwell first if I wanted to try to diminish the recoil pulse, there is a lot more weight to be gained.
diehli
OK... someone had posted a link to a site that listed SV's individual products for sale. The thread was about steel mainspring housings, but I can't find it. If SV's goes for $40 while the ones Dawson is manufacturing go for $60, it's a no-brainer, IMO.
