Looking for .avi editor that will compile and save the clips

Hi all,

Yes, I am looking for a video editor for a Mac that will handle raw .avi footage clips, cut or edit them down, and then save them as a finished project as some YouTube uploadable format.

according to this link these are the formats YouTube will accept:

http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=55744

Here's a list of some well-known formats that YouTube supports:

WebM files - Vp8 video codec and Vorbis Audio codecs

.MPEG4, 3GPP and MOV files - Typically supporting h264, mpeg4 video codecs, and AAC audio codec

.AVI - Many cameras output this format - typically the video codec is MJPEG and audio is PCM

.MPEGPS - Typically supporting MPEG2 video codec and MP2 audio

.WMV

.FLV - Adobe-FLV1 video codec, MP3 audio

thanks!

I figured it out!

:D

It is all about being able to download an add on for QuickTime. I think it was called Perian or Perlian, which allowed me to save the .avi's as .mov's instead.

Then in iMovie, I was able to edit the .mov clips, add text, and whittle them down.

Once I got something I like I finalized the project, then saved it...or rather "exported" it. That saved it in some .m4v format.

So then I had to go back into QuickTime and save that, again, as a .mov .

It was the .mov I was able to upload to YouTube.

MPEG Streamclip can do basic conversion and editing.

If you need more features, you'll most likely get it from Final Cut /Adobe Premiere or the like.

iMovie may nit handle some of the video and audio codecs. I use MPEG SC to format it to compatible code. Hope this helps

+1

ugly UI - user interface, but does the job and very fast too.

I agree. It's not the fanciest app but I just keep coming back every time I have codec issues.

Plus it's free!
