gunfixer
The "Perfect Feel" is that of my self-fitted STI, double-stack Edge Grip... I have Mag-Tech(sp?) Diagonal grooved G-10's on my IDPA single stack, but would like them "Thicker...", closer to the feel of my Edge... 'Been thinking of making spacers but it'd be easier to buy them, or buy thicker grips.. Can you guys steer me in a good direction? Thanks all..! -Eric!- Edited September 20, 2011 by gunfixer
Bsbllrooster
I have huge hands and very long fingers so I am the same way, I like a thicker gun. I was buying them for a bobtailed gun and I couldn't find spacers anywhere. I went with some custom grips from Sarge43 on 1911forum.com He does all kinds of custom grips from all sorts of materials. I went with a 3/8 in thick grip but to be honest it didn't help all that much. The oval shape of the grips were the problem. I too love the feel of my EDGE and I think its because of the square dimensions. Maybe you could have some squareish grips made. Good luck in your search. diehli
You would want these, if they were still made. http://forums.1911forum.com/showthread.php?t=45803
diehli
BTW, with thicker G10 grips, you're going to be pushing the weight limit. Years ago I held an SV that felt pretty good. Another thing to consider may be the thick Burner grips: http://www.jerrybarnhart.com/bpp.htm
2MoreChains
Random thought, but have you tried contacting Larry Davidson to see if he'd make you a set of thicker grips? He can hog out the backs of the grips to keep the weight down. I only mention this because you brought up the Horned Lizards, which Larry makes... polizei1
While not as extreme, I contacted Larry about making me some custom grips that deviated from a "normal set." The point is, he was willing to do the work. I would contact him and see if he's able to work something out for you.
R-Bros_JLR
I've been wondering the same thing ever since I first messed with a double stack....how to make my SS grip feel the same. I'm surprised that nobody has come up with a replacement grip that makes them feel similar.

Jhp147
Larry Davidson made me some thick Horned Lizards for my attempt to make my single stack feel like a double stack. I stopped shooting my 1911 right after that and didn't check to see if they made weight, but I didn't worry as I figured he could hollow the back of them out if needed. If I had it to do over again I'd ask him when I ordered if they needed weight removed before he shipped them. gunfixer
Thanks for all these responses..! Sorry all, I guess I don't know how to set up for instant notification of responses to my posts.. Those "Mondo", black synthetic grips, whatever they are look great..! What ARE they? I don't recognize the, what look like.., mountains(?) logo.. Edited September 24, 2011 by gunfixer
Jhp147
Well, gunfixer, I wanted those the minute I saw them but diehli said "if they were still made" and indeed the Pinnacle Guns web site shows them discontinued. Gives me something else to prowl the forum for sale ads for. Hit the link under the photo.
Aglifter
I've been looking for a set of those pinacle's for awhile - I don't think people are inclined to part w. them... If anyone can render some, my neighbor has a CNC plastic shop - I could probably get him to make some.

rln
These are very lightweight polymer of some kind. They're .295 thick rather than the standard .250 and they are pretty inexpensive. Might be worth a look. http://strikeindustries.com/shop/index.php/pistol-enhancements/1911-pistol-grips-2/1911-extreme-pistol-grip-molded-golf-ball-dimple-pattern-semi-gloss.html
gunfixer
Yeah, uh, did you not see my post? I sure did see your post.. Can you sell me a set or point me to someone that can? That's exactly what I would like..!!
Ben-Sons
I know it's been awhile, but did anyone find a large grip option?
392heminut
You might check out the aluminum grips at this site; http://tactical4less.com/ They look fairly thick. If your interested in them do a search for 1911 grips at gunbroker.com, they have them up for auction there starting for about $20 less than list price. Ben-Sons
Thanks! I'll check them out. Id like about 50-75% thicker grips than stock
sperman
If anyone is interested, I've started making grips that give your 1911 the same size grip as a high cap gun. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=161592
Mikethor
Larry Davidson. He did my grenade punisher grips for my Sig 1911 and I have just ordered a pair of Chunky Horned Lizards for my Springfield. Does fantastic work. I also put an extended EGW trigger on my sig which helped.
tpcdvc
These grips will give you the same index as a 2011. They are grips made by hogue and modified (by me) to the 2011 specs.
davehorn
Check with Tim Calhoun at Calhoun Custom. He makes a SSTK grip made to mimic the feel of a doublestack. I've felt a couple pair, pretty nice. http://www.calhouncustomfirearms.com/ Edit to add: I just realized, I think the previous post is Tim's.
