BDH
Sky, I would love to, but am a little concerned about leaving the US these days. Hopefully, I will get to an International match some day, but just doesn't seem too safe for American's to be out globe trotting these days. Barry, Illinois might be my 'International' destination unless somehow the World gets straightened out.....

Julien Boit
Sky is right, you shouldn't worry about coming in europe. Just beware of "life extending process" sky submited hoser and Dminor to
BDH
Well, maybe one of these days..... I guess I just don't go to Spain, and don't take the train, right? Sorry for the thread drift.....
GvU
There's more than just one train (even in Spain). Visiting Europe for a match means visiting the more rural parts of the countries. That's were our action is! So it is a polite society at least on the range. For that matter there are a few sky scrapers in the US. Don't visit them? DVC, John PS I'm not going to this match, but am going to shoot the Rifle match in Denmark (especially silent, except on the range).

Barry, Illinois might be my 'International' destination unless somehow the World gets straightened out..... Carol and I flew to Germany, on a half-empty plane, on September 20, 2001. My parents flew over the day before. We were going to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday. We talked about it a lot --- and my parents let us off the hook, telling us that if we were worried at all, we could stay here. For us it came down to two things: If we stay, the terrorists win, for their objective is to change the way we live, and the things we do. And we both worked as E.M.T.s long enough, to know that we could get hit by a bus, literally or figuratively, at any moment.... I think the only thing to do with life each day is to live. NPSA 86-259
If you ever want to shoot in a match in Europe you just have to enlist on the website of the event. Why are you afraid of travelling to Europe? You will be suprised about the safe feeling in my country and Europe. It all depends on your own attitude, if you want to be treated nice so be nice yourself. Ammo is not a big issue, if the ever want to shoot at the Dutch Open ammo can be supplied. http://www.ipsc.nl/dutchopen/index.htm
BDH
I guess I am probably being somewhat paranoid. Yes, I understand that it would be more likely to probably get whacked by a garbage truck on the way to work, than getting caught in something terrorist related. Then again, it sure 'seems' like most Europeans are not very happy with the U.S. right now (of course, I don't have direct experience, and like most things, the news may be overblowing things somewhat). OTOH, seeing what the Muslim Extremists do to Americans when they catch them...... I'm sure that Arnie and Denise will work on me at Area 3 and the Pistol Nationals to 'soften me up' a little bit... There is no way I could do it this year anyway, so I would have to plan for something in 2005....
NPSA 86-259
There is a big difference between a citizen, a politician and a moslim. As long as you keep in mind you behave as a citizen who is goiing abroad you just can walk along with the foreigners like the British or Japanese. The politicians in every country ever forget why and by whom they were elected. If one is in the position to push the button it does not matter if his name is Kennedy, Bush, Bush, Hoessein, Gadaffi or Hirohito. Its all about oil and money. The moslim its not the guy you meet in the street, the preacher is the guy who wants to push the button as well and tells his believers they must act this way. Japanese kamikaze pilots had the same attitude as most of the moslims have today. Have you ever been to Japan?
Skywalker
How about posting next years major Euro-matches in the announcments section? I'm willing to do the Italian part of it, but due to the fact that major (Lev. III) matches in Italy are league matches, whose host organization is appointed by the Italian Federation upon defining the league calendar, I won't be able to post 2005 matches at least until february 2005 (our league usually starts on april). In the meanwhile, I can tell you there'll be a Lev. III match in september 2004 near Milan, on the same range hoser and dminor have been in april. Otherwise, you can check every once in a while my club's website: www.teamoffire.it.

BDH
Have you ever been to Japan? NPSA, I do understand your point, and actually one of the reasons I wanted to join IROA was to get out and see some more of the Planet. As for your question about Japan. The answer is no. However, I have had multiple trips the far away land called Canada, and a few trips to my favorite far South destination of the Carribean... GvU
People in Europe not liking US-citizens? Indeed don't confuse the citizens wih politicians. The politicians want to be re-elected. They prey on the sentiments of citizens. Then there is the press, there interest is making money by selling more papers, more viewers on TV etc. They have supposedly have all information, but due to time (and money) constrains they cut the information to size as well, so information may be incomplete or worse false. At this moment citizens are fed up with politicians (promises, promises,.....) and they are very critical about the press (are they really bringing the truth?). If still worried, just blend in! As in every country there is crime (so you can stay home for that). My feelings are that in Europe it is far less than in the US (probably biased towards crimes in metropoles). Usually we are in more rural area's, so no problem there! And by the way I've been to a shooting match in Virginia a month after 9/11 2001 (October). The chances of lighting striking twice is minimal, especially as security was supposed to be enhanced. At the moment I try to get the last stages to the Dutch Open in september ready and I will have them posted soon! Dutch Open, most of the match is indoor, but we do offer very chalenging stages and for (almost) sure a dry match. DVC, John
Julien Boit
That's it ! The 2004 Med Cup is over and it was a nice and Fun week end. This year, organization provided nothing but nice weather, nice stages with a lots of props. The schedule was tight, but it went smooth on the four days. 28 stages, almost 500 rounds was exhausting but a good training for the upcoming europeans. I was lucky to be squaded with Top shooter Jaime Juan Carlos from spain, he's currently Vice champion in Europe and placed 8th at the last world shoot, next squad there was Roman Podlesak, top shooter from Czech republic and Italian top shooter Fabrizio Pesce, this was the top three in standard division. I was lucky to place 4th overall in standard despite a bad 3rd day I never made so much mikes and D's this year Anyway, It was a fun and enjoyable long week end, now I'm getting ready for the STI Open in Germany next week end. Julien Boit
No I have not. I was more focused on my shooting as this was the final step for our nationals team selection process. I have a couple of pictures that I'll try to post soon.
Skywalker
Well, I'd like to share my impressions on the match. The stages were set up wonderfully: lots of fun and great sets (have you ever tried to shoot from a windsurf deck rolling with wind, or from an aquascooter floating on a small lake?). In the Jungle lane I almost had to bring in my personal navigator to find all the targets in the bush (Arnie, Denise, no comments about this please ) and not to shoot those nice tin lions and zebras ambushing my path... The weather was totally different from what I experienced in Nice: my nose is still skinning from the sunburn (I brought snow gear instead of sun shielding cream)... The targets were set up quite differently from what I'm used to see in Italy: lots of close unobstructed targets (closer than 10 m), few steels, almost non-existent no-shoots. I shot quite a conservative match, since I had never attended such a long match, and "skied on my tails" for the first two days, with a definite acceleration the last two days, when I realized I could have gone at a faster pace than I was accustomed to. All in all I managed to shoot 1 mike and 1 no-shoot in the whole match, which brought me to 12th place overall in Standard Division (98 competitors) and a rewarding 2nd place in Teams Standings with my teammates Fabrizio and Sergio (3rd and 9th overall respectively). A funny side note: in the "chasse sous-marine" stage, where you had to lay your gun next to a trapdoor in the deck some 4m ahead of the start position, and at the beep run for the gun and shoot some 5 targets placed 3m below and ahead of the opening, I chose to go prone and shoot arms and head inside the trapdoor, instead of kneeling (better targets visual). At beep I run and went prone faster than I could, smacked my gun in the attempt to pick it up, and did a swift unload when sighting the first target: there I was, lying prone, mag falling on the bottom of the trapdoor, trying to do the fastest "prone reloading" ever made. I eventually managed to reload, shoot and get all my hits, but I'm glad my teammates got only pictures of that, because a videoclip audio track could have been quite embarassing for my not-so-polite exclamations during the whole incident... Julien Boit
Sky: I'm glad you appreciate the stages because It was a hard work for few people (including my father and myself) for some months. I'll post some pics of the aperture you mentionned, you can easily imagine the work it required for a 9 rounds stage Lots of shooters told us it was the best MedCup they attended since its beginning 4 years ago. I hope the next will raise the bar again !
