Lefty Holster

I am a lefty shooting a P16-40 Limited and P14-45 and I am looking for a new holster. Currently using a Helweg KSL, IIRC, and it works OK but holds the gun close to my stomach and has the gun riding very high for me, I am 6'2" with long arms.

I would appreciate comments on any left handed holsters such as the CR, Ghost, Univ. Shooting Academy Pro series, Safari Land, Limcat, Aluminator, etc. on performance and ability to hold a Para securely. Thanks in advance.

I have the Limcat (sorry I'm a righty)

I really like it. When the lock is on, the gun is not going anywhere...when the lock is off...make sure you have a grip on the gun before you take off :D

Very adjustable and indeed a "no drag draw" as advertised

Cheers

I have a lefty Ghost Holster for my P16-40, and it is okay. When it came, the channel was too narrow for the trigger guard, so I had to have the Smith widen it. I'm also not too fond of having to drill a hole in my trigger guard. The holster is very secure though, and very fast once you get it adjusted correctly. I think if I had to buy another holster though, I would try the Guga Ribas.

Quigley, are you using the Limcat with a Para?

Jimmy Z - I did a search for Guga Ribas and did not find anything. Any website with a picture?

I was...I shoot an SVI now (just had to change an internal part to make it work)

The holster will come setup for STI/SVI and the parts you need to change if you shoot a Para.

If you have a chance, next time your at a match and you see someone with a Limcat, ask him if you can have a look, take a few practice draws. Some people don't like the feel, I really like it. I was using a CR before, also a good holster

Cheers

Yes, I have been looking at the 012. Unfortunately as a lefty I don't have much of a choice in holsters, I have narrowed it down to the CR Speed, 012 and Limcat. At my next couple of matches I will be looking at the rigs the other lefties are using and get their input before I decide.

An 011 has worked well for every 1911/2011 I've owned without modification. Open, Limited, L10 and NRA Action with barricade shroud. Para LDA worked too, but it is not legal for production.

Recently, holsters.com had lefty 011's cheap.

Didn't like the Ghost or Limcat. CR Speed - the screw bushings don't go all the way through. Anchoring in plastic does not work for me.

Aluminator is good for odd length revos.

*QUOTE*

I've run the full gambit and come back to a 012. It's more secure than it looks.

Friend of mine thought the same thing till his gun took wings.

I use the Hogue Power Speed that everyone turns their nose up at and always draw fron the intermediate locked position. Fast and VERY secure.

It can be made into a left handed holster.

I've used the CR Speed in the left handed version. It is quite fast and secure. The lever which locks the gun in is very intuitively positioned for a RIGHT handed shooter to be moved on and off with the trigger finger, but when worn on the left side requires you to reach into the inside side of the holster from the front or back to flip it on or off. Kind of annoying.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have run many holsters, Blocker, Ernie Hill, Safariland 007-010, CR and Limcat.

I never was a fast with the Safarilands as I was with the EH's. The CR is a good holster, but the lock is inboard when converted to the proper hand. Presently, I run the Limcat and like it over the CR because of it's small package and ease of release from lock. I carry the gun in an appendix position and all of the other holsters are always in the way when I squat for low ports. This is not the case with the Limcat.

What it boils down to is ask some folks if you can try out their holster and see what fits you the best.

I'm using the Safariland Levitation 012 left hand with a Para 18.9, work great but I had to remove the rubber block and put a much slimer spacer in order to be able to adjust the locking system.....without any spacer I couldn't look the holster, with the stock one had a little to much friction taking the gun out.
