XDM 10 round mag

Recommended Posts

The XDM 5.25 looks like a nice platform. Springfield does not offer a 10 round mag. In CA we can get the XDM's using a single shot exemption. The mags are an issue though. One shop here is riveting up a stop inside the mag the stops the follower at 10 rounds, but you can't take the mag apart. Any ideas on the best way to make a XDM 10 round mag that can be taken apart easily?

Thanks,

Keith

You might look at converting another magazine that -is- available to you.

My XD manual states "magazines can be modified to fit the XD" but it recommends against this practice because the ejector can be wrecked by a poor fitting magazine.

Start with a Beretta 92 mag (they had full length tubes that were crimped to limit them to ten rounds) and put factory XD base plates on them. You'll have to pare down the base plate to get it to sit in the frame so the mag stops just below the ejector. Then carve the notch in the front of the mag tube (or have a gunsmith do it) for the catch.

If you can only find magazines like these half tube design Build up epoxy on the top of the area that flares out for the base plate and grind it to achieve a stop for the proper height.

Ruger P series and SIG P226 magazines should be convertible too. You might need to change followers though. The other followers may lock the gun open prematurely .

XDm mags are different than XD mags, I thought.

The XD and XDM mags are different. Adding material to the frame to compensate for a narrower magazine is not out of the question.

The problem is California. If you start with a California approved magazine and convert it to work in the XDM, its a better route (legally speaking). The solution Keith found (above) is great from a functional standpoint but its not very strong if an overzealous LEO finds it. (would be better if the magazine tube didn't indicate it holds '16 or '18')
