Jeeper
I was curious how many people shoot both USPSA and IDPA. Which divisons and classes are you in both? Do you think it helps to shoot both or is concentrating on one better?
Chuck D
I shoot both. I compete in Limited and L10 division at IPSC/USPSA matches and I shoot SSR in IDPA. I use IDPA matches as an excuse to shoot my "carry gun", a 2 inch Smith and Wesson model 19. There really isn't a "competitive place" for a two inch gun shooting minor in USPSA competition but I can hold my own at an IDPA match with the gear I use daily for personal protection. As far as my thoughts on shooting both goes...trigger time is trigger time. Just like a race car driver, you need to get as much "seat time" as possible before you can become a good driver. Ignore the "tactical vs gamesmanship" nonsense and go out and punch a few holes into whatever target they happen to be using that day. Just remember to have fun...and learn a little something along the way.
kdj
So far, I've only shot USPSA 'cause there is no division in IDPA where I can compete with my Open gun I might try IDPA one day if I can remember what those notchy square things on the top of some guns are for but I'd probably not fit in too well since it's all a game to me and I hear that attitude is not popular in some circles Kevin
rtr
I shoot both, Production and SSP with a Glock 17.
Duane Thomas
I shoot both. In USPSA I'm A-class in Limited-10, and in IDPA I'm rated Expert in CDP, ESP and SSP. In both sports I fire my carry gun, a Wilson Defensive Combat Pistol, a singlestack 1911 .45. In IDPA I use my everyday carry gear, a Blade-Tech Standard Belt Holster and double mag pouch also from Blade-Tech. In USPSA I've recently switched to using a Blade-Tech Standard Belt Holster, as well, though it is threaded onto a Safariland competition belt with Safariland competition mag pouches. I love both. 3quartertime
Isn't IDPA for nerds with vests??? Oh yea,,, I voted USPSA only... B limited
TRG65
There really wasn't a category for me. So I'll vote by post. I usually (95%) shoot IDPA, because those are the clubs that were w/in the most reasonable driving distance. However, there is one club that when I'm at school is close and shoots both, but when I'm at home its all IDPA. Before I came backe to school usually I would make one road trip a year to shoot USPSA. I would have voted I usually shoot IDPA but occasionally dabble in USPSA. I love IDPA, but I would shoot more USPSA if it was closer. At heart I'm a "gamer" and all the guys I shoot IDPA w/ know it. I shoot a G-34 in SSP, production (when I shoot USPSA) and sometimes in ESP. I'll sometimes use a Springfield 9 in ESP as well.
stingerjg
99% of the time i shoot USPSA. the only time i shoot IDPA is when the local indoor club shoots it on the third tues of every month. but half the time i dont remember when i pack up my gear and end up shooting it with my open gun and speed holster. i still use the rules ie 10 rounds in the mag and tac reloads
Matthew_Mink
Been shooting both since I started. I have learned things in both sports that apply to the other, although I can say that USPSA has taught me the most about shooting quickly and accurately. SSP Master, CDP Master, ESP Expert (gotta shoot that classifier again one day ) USPSA Production GM, M everything else The thing I hate about both sports is the constant sniper attacks at the other. The IDPA folk claim theirs is more 'tactical', whatever the heck that means. The USPSA folk claim that there isn't a single IDPA shooter that can shoot their way out of a wet paper bag, which isn't true either. So I do what any redblooded American would do, I poke fun at both camps and stir the pot.
BigDave
I'm starting to shoot both IDPA and USPSA. In USPSA its Limited and L10 with my SV, and Revolver with a 5" 610. In IDPA lately its been a Glock 17 (gasp!), but it will likely be the STI Trojan 40 in ESP when the smith gets done with it. PS - 3QT, I don't wear a vest. BTW - I also shoot NRA Action Pistol, Steel Challenge and Bowling Pins - an equal opportunity trigger puller, if you will.
Ron Ankeny
I was shooting both regularly. I am concentrating on Open so I now shoot IDPA only on occasion.
TDean
None of the answers apply to me, so I didn't vote. I mostly shoot IPSC while I attend 3-4 IDPA matches per year. GM Limited and a humbling Expert in both SSP and CDP . I've only shot the classifier once in each division and I wasn't in an IDPA frame of mind (too fast, too inaccurate on the first string both times)
kevin c
I started in IPSC, and now shoot the occasional IDPA match as well. I figure to heck with the history of bad blood - shooting is shooting. The rules are just different, that's all. That being said, I do have an IPSC bias to high round count and fast shooting, 'cause it's that much fun, and that's where I started. Most folks where I shoot do most all the different disciplines as the matches come up - IPSC, IDPA, GSSF, etc., and as best I can tell there isn't much of the snooty, holier than thou BS that divides some shooters at a time when we ought to work toward our common interests rather than concentrating on perceived differences. JFD
We need more poll choices. I didn't vote. I shoot USPSA 99.9% of the time (B L-10). I give IDPA a try here and there to see if they finally figured out how to read their own rules. So far they haven't.
TriggerT
I have shot both, but at least in my area IDPA is almost non-existant.
Jeeper
I should have included more poll choices like Mainly USPSA or visa versa. Can a mod do that for me? Pretty Please!!!!!!!!
vincent
To date I have competed mostly in IDPA. Starting this summer I plan on shooting more IPSC/USPSA than IDPA. I like both sports, but I'm in need of a change of pace so the IPSC stuff is more attractive to me right now. IDPA: CDP Master, ESP Master, SSP Master Two of my three Master classifications have come from winning Expert class at Nationals. Funny thing is last year I shot the classifier before Nationals but did not make Master. However at Nationals I won Expert by a large margin and came in 4th overall in CDP behind Landon, Leatham, and Yost. USPSA: Limited B Last year I shot a handful of IPSC/USPSA club matches and have shot a few more this year. I finally shot a special classifier match and now have some scores on record for Limited. I've got some new skills to learn and hope to reach A class soon.
AikiDale
Add me to the list who did not vote because my category was not there. I shoot USPSA because there are few IDPA matches around and the one that are would require two to three times the drive on the same day I can shoot USPSA. In fact, I let my membership lapse because I wasn't getting to any matches. I would shoot IDPA as well as USPSA if there were a local club, or if there were not so many USPSA clubs around here. GRD
Both. My first practical shooting match was USPSA almost exactly one year ago. Stick the needle in, I'm ready! Woohoo! CDP: SS ESP: SS Lim-10: U
