SmittyFL
I thought I would start a thread for information on the 2004 USPSA Nationals. We have a thread for who's going and what what they are shooting so lets keep this one for helpful/useful information. I'll be making my first trip to the nationals, as I'm sure others are. I can't really find any info on what to expect. I imagine we'll receive an information package of some sort but I thought we could post useful stuff here as well. For those in the know; are there good hotels, or ones to avoid? I don't know what the shooting schedule is like but from what I understand you have a lot of "off" time. Is there anything worth doing or seeing in the area? What time does it usually wrap up? Should you plan to fly out late Sat night or stay over until Sunday (assuming you want to stay for the end of the festivities)? Etc., you get the idea, just info to help everyone make their trip better, cheaper, more fun, smoother, bla, bla, bla. Any info appreciated. Cameron
I am interested in a camping location. Any suggestions? Info? Cameron
Nik Habicht
Most competitors seem to stay in either Quincy, IL or in Hannibal, MO. If you're traveling with a significant other who expects some degree of comfort, I (we) can recommend the Holiday Inn in Quincy. There is a small motel in Barry called the Ice House --- as it's only about five minutes from the range, it might provide a competitive advantage during a summer heat match --- got an hour of downtime? Run home, take a cool shower and change before running back out to the range and shooting against hotter, grungier competitors....
reneet
I personally prefer staying closer to the range. I've never stayed at the Ice House but have heard it's appropriately named. They keep it really cool! There are several other small towns close by. Pittsfield is the only one that comes immediately to mind but there are several other towns nearby with accomodations. Quincy is by far the most popular place to stay but is a 35-45 minute drive to the range. The hotel I used to stay at in Quincy was the Altoff and it was reasonably priced, clean and has indoor pool and hot tub. If you're interested in having entertainment, socializing after range hours, shopping, movie theater etc. Suggest you stay in Quincy or Hannibal. You'll want to fly out the day after the Shootoffs / Prize Table unless you can catch a redeye.

mactiger
Here's the official web page for the City of Quincy: http://www.ci.quincy.il.us/ or, try this one: http://www.virtualquincy.com/ or this one: http://www.quincy-cvb.org/ There are several hotels around the river end of downtown: the best two are the Holiday Inn and the Hampton, although there are several others that are fine. There are also a couple of hotels out on the East end of town, on US 24, or Broadway, nearer the mall, some restaurants, and the interstate which takes you to Barry and PASA. If you like good beef and pork, there are several good restaurants in downtown and near the river. I can recommend the Patio, Tony's Old Place, and Tiramisu. There are others in town--everything from Mickey D's to Chili's, and places like them. There's a mall, movie theaters, golf, a trap and skeet club in W. Quincy, MO, and other attractions. Hannibal has it's own attractions and hotels. I'm not as familiar with them as I am with the stuff in Quincy. Pittsfield, to the East of Barry, is another option, but, all the activities will be in either Barry or Quincy, FYI. Hannibal isn't quite as far a drive to the range as Quincy, but like Renee says, it's 35-45 minutes (and that is racing, Nik). Some folks take a bit longer.... Good luck, and if you need more specific information, email me, or post asking for more. I'll do what I can (I don't live there), or I'll find someone who does. Where's DMinor when you need her? mactiger
Ah, yes. The fastest car in the world is a rental car. We should get Matt Burkett to explain that sometime.... Troy

dminor
Hi Troy, I am here this morning. It looks like you covered most of the questions in regard to Quincy with the exception of including The Pier Restaurant as a very good place to eat at. Cameron, There is camping available in Quincy, Pittsfield, and Hannibal. Please send me a PM letting me know what you need, dminor@adams.net. There is some very limited camping at PASA Park. Any one else needs anything please let me know and I will give you as much info as I can. I will be at PASA this weekend for the single stack match, so I can look for info while I am there! hoser
20 minutes? I managed 28 one morning last year --- I was following a Mustang that was doing 90 on the interstate ---- but 20 minutes? I'm in AWE! My personal best time from the Days Inn to S&W Hall was a little under 18 minutes. But then, I took the back roads, through Marblehead and Kinderhook, not the freeway. Yeah, I was late! Chriss Grube
DMinor, What's the name off the little hotel it was across and down the street from I thinking the Days Inn. It wasn't anything fancy but had a bed and shower and was only around 30 bucks a night?
dminor
Chris, You may be thinking of the Hotel Elkton. It is located across the street from the Holiday Inn and is connected with The Patio. This weekend Arnie and I got our room there for $34 a night. Do not stay at the old Travelodge. Nationals put ROs up there 2 years ago and it was awful, even the Day's Inn is better. There is a Christian motel/hotel called The Shepherd's Inn which use to be a Ramada Inn which is nearby also . I have not been in it for a very long time. On the east side of town there is a Super 8, a Fairfield Inn, Stoney Creek Inn (spendy) , a Confort Inn, and some small others scattered around. Hope this helps! Patrick Sweeney
I stayed in the Hotel Elkton in 1988 for the Masters, when the Downtown Club next door had closed. Nice place. I've been in just aobut every place in Quincy and Hannibal, and most of the good ones are closed or changed. Too bad about the Travelodge. I stayed there in the early 90's and it was fine. Chriss Grube
DMinor, Thanks it was the Travel lodge I stayed at. It was a dive but it was cheap and had running water.
BDH
I can recommend the Patio, Tony's Old Place, and Tiramisu. Hmmm, guess Deb and I better get our reservations in early this year. Oh ya, she will be stuck in Stats..... Anyone need a date for a good dinner? (Reminder to SELF.... never ask a question like that!)
mactiger
Hey, I'll go with ya, big guy! Besides, there are so many stats people this year, the head stats babe tells me they'll be done a half-hour before the last shot is fired every day!
