MTSCMike
Q1- M1 vs M2, which would you consider the better shotgun for local 3-gun and home defense (reliability, shootability, etc)? Q2- What would be the difference in value/desireability between a pre-ban M1 and a post-ban M1 if both are in excellent condition? Any input will be greatly appreciated. Brian Payne
Q1: M-2 with comfortech stock. Lighter, less felt recoil, and just seems a little more streamlined, quicker handling. That may be subjective though. Q2: Neither one. Some of the earlier HK marked M1's had the bolt already modified to allow "ghost loading" which is a mute point if you have a 8 rd tube. Tyro Shooter
it has been noted that true diehards will choose the M1 over the M2 the M1 has a better vent rib (5 attachment points as opposed to the 3 on an M2) the M1 has more options for a pistol grip stock and a conventional stock, side saddles and sling points. an M2 it has been said has the comfort tech buttstock pad that can fall off at most inopportune of times. the replacement barrels for an M1 are easier to find (Benelli only makes 10 extra M2 barrels every other leap year) as mentioned an H&K imported Benelli will have the original mods to ghost load and a newer M1 and all M2's will need to have this quick mod done to them. after all of that it should come down to $$$$$ (how much does each cost) any Benelli Pre M1, PostM1 or M2 is desirable an can be slightly modified to run at the top levels of 3 Gun with full reliability
kurtm
First off the original M1s were not "modified" to allow "ghost loading", (which is a silly, pedantic term at best). The later M1s and M2s were modified so that you COULDN'T load one on the carrier due to a request by U.S. Wildlife. Second having used both the M1 and M2 quite extensivly all I can say is no matter which one you get it will be a great gun. Yes there are SLIGHT diffenences in both, but they both run and run.
